Today Elder Wilson came to visit. We danced and he sang and drummed. He told us how he makes music.Ask me what he listens to. We made our own talking stick today. We can use it at the dinner table tonight. We had our talent show this afternoon. It was lots of fun. We sure do love Old Town Road.

Today we celebrated our Kindergarten Year. We sang and danced and had lots of fun doing The Chihuahua Dance with our parents and friends. We played games in the gym with our family. It was so much fun!

Today Mrs. Kitson read us the book, The Fairy House. We hope it stops raining so we can build our own fairy houses. Ask me what the rule of the woods is. We drew different plants in our nature notebook. We learned about the cow parsnip. Ask me what I learned. We finished our printing books. We will always remember to start our letters from the top. We played UNO. We played fair with our friends. We had fun in music. We can hardly wait to show you our dance. We played a fun catch the ball and run game in gym. We are bringing home a notebook that we can use as our summer lifebook. We had a fun day in Kindergarten. Our supplies from Staples are in. You can pick them up. They are on a cart in front of the kindergarten room.
Today we had a math morning. We played lots of fun math games. We had fun at center time playing with the fairy costumes and drawing fairies. We also played in The Maker Space. It was a fun day in Kindergarten.
Today we had a special visitor. He taught some words in Cree. Our visitor was really nice. It is fun to learn new words. We made a Cree Brown Bear book. We drew the wood frog in our nature journal. We listened to frog sounds. We went to the Gathering Space and listed to a talk on farm safety. We learned that if there is only one seat there should only be one rider.
Today Mrs. Kitson read us the book, The Giving Tree, by Leah Dorian. It is a Metis story about a special tree. Ask me what is special about the tree. We went on a nature hunt and found different coloured flowers. We saw blue bells and yellow bell flowers. We saw little white flowers too. When we got to one of our special trees we found a box. Inside the box was a note. It was from The Giving Tree. In the box there was the book, The Bannock Bread Boy, flour, baking powder and salt. We made bannock. It was delicious. We planted our space tomatoes. It was a great day in Kindergarten.
Today we found a frog on our playground, He was under our hose. Mr. Hill, the junior High science teacher brought us an aquarium filled with frogs. We looked up information about the frogs. We found out the big one we found was a toad. Ask me about the differences between a toad and a frog. It was a special day. We went to grade one. It was lots of fun. We had a fun day in KIndergarten and grade one.
Today we went into the forest. The forest has changed so much. We went to visit our tree and we drew our tree in our nature notebooks. We collected lots of sticks to make fairy houses. We visited our garden. The radishes and kohlrabi are growing. We had fun in music class. Ask me to sing you a song. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.
Today Mrs. Kitson read us the books, Polar Bear, Polar Bear What do you Hear? and Panda Bear, Panda Bear What do you Seer? We played a listening game. We tried to identify the animal that went with the sound. It was really hard. Do you know what a panda bear or a zebra sounds like? We made our own Eric Carle collages. It was fun sharing different papers that we had painted. We played a new math game calle Number Face Off. We talked about numbers that are greater than and less than. We wrote in our lifebooks and we are bringing home a new little book to read. We had fun at music. Our garden is starting to grow. We had a fun day in KIndergarten.
Today we had special visitors. They were chickens. Our friend talked to us about the special chickens. They were pretty cool. We talked about their eggs, and how they drink water. We learned a lot about chickens. We played a new dice game. We had to add two numbers together. We made friendship books. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.
Today we talked about rhyming words. They are called word families. We made our own "ip: family word book. We have made lots of books to practice reading with. We practiced writing our numbers. Mrs. Kitson read us the book, The Night Gardner. We looked at topiaries around the world. Do you know what a topiary is? We practiced cutting a special spiral circle. We had a fun day in Kindergarten. ( Mrs. Kitson forgot to take a picture so today's picture was taken on Thursday)
Today we went outside and planted in our new garden boxes. We also planted sunflower seeds against the school wall. We are excited to see our plants grow. Ask me what seed I planted. We practiced printing letters that all start with Magic C. We are taking home some of our printing books today. Remind me to always start at the top and use the correct pencil grasp. Mrs. Kitson read us the book, All the Places I Love. We talked about the places we love to go. Most of our places were in nature. We had a picnic outside. We had fun in music and at Wondertime.
Today we set up our own International Space Station. We found out which of our tomato seeds went to Space. Kids all across Canada and The United States planted special tomato seeds. Our new garden boxes arrived today. Next week we will be planting outside. We should dress in clothes that we can get dirty. If we have gloves or little shovels we can bring them to school. We are learning about Eric Carle. He is an illustrator and author. We learned how he made his special pictures. We made a story on our story mat. We played a math game where we looked at the dice and used the strategy of counting on the biggest number. We practiced writing sight words. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.
Today we made our own centers at Wondertime. One of our centers was the drawing center. Our friends gave us lessons on how to draw different things. Today we started our printing program. We learned that we always start our numbers from the top. We made frog jump capitals. Ask me what that means. We made pictures out of shapes. We looked at 3D shapes and tested whether they would roll or slide or do both. We made a shape colour monster book. We had to look for the beginning letter to see what colour to colour the shapes. We wrote in our lifebooks. We had fun playing outside. It was a fun first day back.

Today we watched a video story. It was an Inuit legend called, The Owl and the Raven. Ask me about the story. Mrs.Kitson showed us an owl pellet. Ask me what an owl pellet is. He sent us a funny book about a leprechaun and the gingerbread man. It was a good book. We are bringing home our "at" book. We talked about the at family.We worked on our houses and we learned how to draw our portraits. We also painted the window in The Maker Space. Mrs. Kitson talked to us about the artist, Wassily Kandinsky. Ask me about his art. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.
Today we set up a castle in our classroom. We have lots of dress up clothes and fancy dishes. We played a special math game today called, Finger Trails. We also played a math game with cards and dice. We made a little book. We talked about snap words. Some people call them popcorn words, because they keep popping up when you are learning to read. We read the word can and made rhymes with word can. We can decorate a little box and keep our books in it. We can practice reading the books with our family. We wrote in our lifebook. We are learning to stretch out the sounds in words. Mrs. Kitson read us the book, Little Red Riding Hood. We will be reading lots of fairy tales. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

We can practicre reading the books at home with our family. We played a new game with dice and a ruler. We used a special dice, with a small dice inside a big dice. We had to see which number was biger and then count on. We talked about the letter Z. We made words on the ipads with the letters: s,a,t,p, i and n. Mrs Kitson read us a funny book. It was called, Somebody and The Three Blairs. Ask me what was different about this book. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

Today it was Hawaii Day in KIndergarten. Mrs. Kitson read the books, The Pig Kuhana, and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. We made our own coconut trees. We made leis and made a beach book. We had a tasting table where we tasted; pineapple, cocount, bananas, mangos, dragon fruit and pomellos. Ask me what fruits I liked. Mrs.Kitson brought in real clams and oysters. We learned about the insides of these shellfish. Ask me about a special foot. We played beach games in the gym and we did the limbo. The girls danced for the boys a special Hawaii hula and the boys danced for the girls. The boys dance was really hard but the girls said they could do it too. It was a ALOHA day in KIndergarten.
Today some of us played a new game at Wondertime. It is called, Paul Frank, Boatload of Fun. You have to find a picture of the gameboard. It is really hard, but fun. Mrs. Kitson read us the book, Alphabet on Stage. It is special ABC book. We also listened to the book, Caps for Sale and retold the story on Seesaw. Look for a post on Seesaw coming soon.Ask me about the book. We played a new math game. It was called, Spill the Beans. We were learning about the number 5.
Today we played with special play dough. We played with chocolate and cinnamon sparkle playdough. We made our own chocolates. Today we had indoor recess again. Mrs, Kitson read us the book, Bloom, Ask me about the book. It was about a real person. Mrs. DeHaan read the book, Perfect Petunias. Ask me about making mistakes. We made patterns with unifix cubes and then painted our patterns. We had to think hard about our pattern because we couldn't always use the same colours. We talked about the letter v and played the game Bump It. It is a subitizing game. Look for a video about subitizing on Seesaw. We had a fun day at school!
Today we talked about what play is. We watched a video of children playing different games all over the world. We played all day at school. We made up our own games. One of the things we said was that playing is sharing. We had a playful fun day in Kindergarten.
Today it was so cold outside that the buses did not run. We had 1/2 our class at school. We finished colouring our birds. We played in The Learning Common. We built structures with the grade one children. We made cookies out of pancake mix. We went to music and sang our favourite songs. We had fun playing with puppets at Wondertime. We had a cozy day in Kindergarten.
Today Mrs. Kitson read us the book, Wordy Birdy. Ask me about the book. Some of us are wordy birdies. Ask me what that means. We played a dice game. It was really hard. We rolled the dice and had to colour in the number that when we added it to the dice number it made 10. We should try this at home. We used jewels to add on to the number on the dice. We talked about the letter J. We wrote in our lifebooks. We are clapping sylabbles and stretching out the words to hear the sounds. We played a game where we had to really listen. Mrs Kitson would say a word and we had to say the word without the first sound. (say bat, now say bat with out the "B".) It is hard to do. We talked about different kinds of lines. We drew our own wordy bird. We took our time and we are going to work on our birds tomorrow. We sang funga alafia in music. Ask me to sing you the song. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.
Today Mrs. Kitson read us the books, Are You my Mother and Some Birds. They were both about birds. We love the beautiful illustrations in the Some Birds book. We finished our bird books and we worked hard on our patterning books. We made a seesaw recording of our ABC sounds. We are working hard learning our letters and sounds. Mrs. Kitson read us a book about Grumpy Cat. We used our feeling stones and talked about how we felt and why. Mrs. Kitson made up a happy poem and a grumpy poem. They were funny poems.We had a silly, happy day in Kindergarten.
Today we talked about bird beaks. Birds have lots of different kinds of beaks. We did an experiment with different tools and kinds of food to see which tool (beak) was the best to pick up different kinds of food. Ask me about the experiment. Ask me what kind of bird I was and what kind of beak I had. We made clay owls with Mrs. D. Mrs, Kitson read us the book, Raven. It was about the sun. We worked in our number book and we talked about the letter B. It was a fun day in Kindergarten.
Today we talked about eagles. Ask me about the different eagles. Mrs. Kitson pretended she was an alien from outerspace and we had to tell her what a bird is. Ask me what is special about birds. We drew pictures in our bird books. We looked at the shapes of the birds bodies and beaks. We are making a number book. We are practicing writing numbers. We showed Mrs. Kitson what we know about rhyming. It is on Seesaw. We talked about the letter B. We made different patterns with two different colours. We can make patterns for you at home. We can look for patterns in our house. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.
Today we talked about birds. We learned about their special eyelids. We talked about the difference between a crow and a raven. Ask me what some of the differences are. We practiced our letter sounds. We made words with the letters: s,a,t,p,i,n. We wrote a sentience in our lifebook and practiced writing the word like. We read our own little book, Food I like. We can practice reading and pointing to the words. We our making a special pattern number book. We are working on making different patterns using two attributes. We stayed in for recess because it was so, so cold outside. We started to paint our birdhouses. When we bring them home we should spray them with a special protective coating so the paint doesn't wash off. Remeber to use the nails that were sent home to secure the bird house. We had a busy, fun day in Kindergarten.
Today we built our own bird houses. We were very good at following directions. We played a tree building game. We had to be careful not to knock our branches off the tree. We played with our new friends in KT at recess. It was a busy fun day!
Today we started talking about the winter birds of Alberta. We are making our own bird book. We saw pictures of woodpeckers, sparrowsn redpolls and lots of other birds. Mrs. Kitson read us the book, Raven's Feast. It is an indigenous story. Ask me about the story. We talked about the letter L. We made AB patterns and other patterns with two colours.We wrote in our life books. We are learning to write the snap word, like. We went to music and sang songs. Ask me to sing you a song. We went outside in the forest. There was a big tipi in the forest made of sticks. We decided to build our own tipi. We listened for birds. We layed down and listened to the sounds of the forest. It was a beautiful day in the forest.
Today we ground the wheat that one of our classmates brought to school from her farm. We made bread. We talked about the ingredients. We even put in canola oil. We remember that our friend brought in canola for us to see. We made our own buns and butter. Mrs. Kitson read us the books, The Little Red Hen and The Little Red Hen Makes Pizza. We had a fun day in Kindergarten!

We are always practicing our letters and sounds. We look for letters in the letters the Gingerbread man sends us. We search for letters around the room. Today Mrs. Kitson read the book, The Polar Express. We pretended we were on a train and we even had hot chocolate and marshmallows. We played different board games. We are learning to take our turn and help our friends learn new games. In the afternoon we went to see the Elementary Christmas concert. We had a super fun day in Kindergarten.
Today we met new friends and practiced for The Christmas Concert! We can hardly wait until tonight. We need to be in our classroom at 6:00 p.m. Our class will put their coats and boots in the Boot room and then go to The Kindergarten Classroom!
Today we played letter detective. We searched for letters around the room. We wrote the lower case letters and matched the letters with the upper case letters. We worked on the iPad listening to sounds and making three letter words. We talked about the letter H. We are making our own alphabet books. We played a new memory game. It is called Hear and Seek. We had to remember sounds not pictures. We made our special Christmas present for our family. It is breakable. It is wrapped in tissue paper in our kanga pouches. We practiced for the Christmas concert. We had a great day in Kindergarten.
Today we had our Christmas Party. We made so many different Christmas crafts. We made reindeer, stars, ornaments and a big long Christmas chain. We played games and decorated cookies. We had an awesome day in Kindergarten.

Today Mrs. Kitson read us the book, Backyard Birds. We learned about an artist named Robert Bateman. He loves birds. He told a story about loving to watch chickadees when he was eight years old. We looked at his paintings. He is a beautiful artist. We made our own chickadee Paintings. Mrs Kitson read us the book, Have you seen Birds by Barbara Reid. She is an artist who makes pictures with plastercine. We sorted on the ipad on Seesaw. We played Bump It, and cut out a sequence Gingerbread Man story. We played with basketballs, sponge balls, and hoops in gym. We made up our own games. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.
Today we went out to the Forest. We found animal tracks. We think they were wolf and deer tracks. We listened for chickadees. Instead of chickadees we hear a loud grow. We made up a story about The Fultonvale Growler. Ask me about The Growler. We looked at the branches on the trees. We talked about what kinds of lines we saw. We saw curvy, wiggly and bumpy lines. We found some christmas trees. Mrs. Kitson talked to us about how these trees are called coniferous trees and they keep their needles all year long. We went for a long walk. It was a beautiful day in the forest. When we got back to the class we drew pictures of the Growler. The Gingerbread Man sent us a present. It was a writing box. We started writing letters to our friend, the Gingerbread Man. He sent us an email too. We practiced our sounds by circling letters in the email. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.
In Kindergarten we practice looking at groups of objects and work on seeing the numbers without counting. We play card games and dice games. Dominoes is also a great game to play to practice subitizing. Mrs. Kitson read us a book about Remembrance Day. She brought in a picture of a soldier. It was a picture of her dad. We talked about being good to the person you are with. We are practicing our letters; s,a,t,p,i and n. We can look for those letters when you are reading us a book. We can also use the letters that Mrs. Kitson sent home to practice our sounds. We can move the letters around to make words if we know our sounds. We talked about compound words. Ask me what a compound word is. We had a fund day in Kindergarten.
Today Sparky came to visit. He talked to us about Fire Safety. Ask me what I should do if I see matches. We talked about a meeting spot. Where should we meet if there is a fire in our house? We talked about what we should do if our clothes catch on fire. Ask me what we should do. Today we talked about sorting animals in different ways. We played a new card game. We practiced our letter sounds, "s,a,t,p,and our new sound "n" We can look for these letters when you read us a book at night. We sang the song, Little Engine Number 9 and played instruments. Mrs. Kitson read us the book, Wonky, Donkey. It is really funny. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

Today we learned about an artist named Georgia O'Keeffe. She liked to paint really big flowers. She said she liked to look closely at the flowers before she painted. We looked closely at poppies today. We used special pastels and made beautiful flowers. We are all artists, just like Georgia. She said she knew she would be an artist when she was a little kid just like us. We talked about sorting today. We sorted different animals. We made our own sorting groups. Ask me to sort something at home. We talked about the letter "i" today. We sang songs in music class. I can sing a song for you. We turned the house into a fire station today. We are also having fun writing our friends' names.We had a fun day in Kindergarten
Today we had a Halloween party. We made ghosts, witches and black cats. We laced a pumpkin and made a beaded spider. We played lots of fun games. We played ghost pie face, and Bite the marshmallow. We played ghost bowling and water ghost race. We played lots of other games too. We had mummy hot dogs for lunch. It was a spooky fun day in Kindergarten.

Today we went into the Forest. We went for a long walk. We walked through tall grass. It was really hot! We made the letter A and the letter S out of sticks and leaves. S was really hard to make the letter S. It has curves. We had to find bendable sticks. Mrs. Kitson read us the story, My Tree Named Steve. It was a special friend tree. We looked closely at natural objects called artifacts. We drew different artifacts in our nature journal. Mrs. Kitson brought a plant from her garden We guessed what it was. We didn't know. It was brussel sprouts. We had a sunshine kind of day in Kindergaren.
Today The Gingerbread Man sent us an email. He said he really enjoyed his hot lunch. He is still on a big adventure. He sent us a special book. It was called, The Gingerbread Man, Loose in the School. We talked about the letter: S and the Letter. We practiced our cutting and colouring. We played a new math game. It is called, Power of 10. We are practicing seeing numbers without counting. It is called subitizing. We went on the school bus and learned about bust safety. It was a fun day in Kindergarten.
Today one of our friends brought in canola and wheat. We watched a video about how canola oil is made. We had never seen canola seed before. Mrs. D said she can bring her flour mill to grind the wheat. We can make our own flour. We talked about what tree trunks look like. They are all so different. They are not all brown and straight. We talked about syllables. We clapped our names and different words. We are making our own ABC books. We talked about the letter S. We went to the library. We should bring our books back every week so we can get new books. We had a fun day in Kindergarten
Today Mrs. Kitson read the books, The Busy Tree and The Inside Tree. Ask me what happened when the man brought the tree inside his house. Mrs. Kitson also showed us pictures of art made in the forest. We went out to the forest and visited our tree. We also made a big group picture with leaves. It was hard to find red leaves. Mrs. D made leaf prints with us. We found a special leaf and then we used a hammer to make a leaf print. We built with sticks and leaves and went for a nature walk. We looked closely at the trees. We thought tree trunks were brown. We noticed that they were not brown at all. We talked about the colour and texture of the tree trunks. We had a great day in Kindergarten.
Today Mrs.Kitson read us the story, The Gingerbread Man. We made gingerbread cookies. We made a big gingerbread man. When we went to get our cookies, the big gingerbread man was gone. We looked all over the school. There were clues all over the school. We saw crumbs. We even thought we saw a leg under Mrs. Kihn's desk. We looked so hard for him but we didn't find him. He sent us an email. He said he went on an adventure. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.
Today we went out into the Forest. We talked about safety rules in the forest. We looked for a special tree that we could our own. We will be visiting our tree throughout the school year. We had a fire drill today. We practiced getting out of the school safely. We talked about what orange day meant. Mrs. Kitson read us the book, Shi-shi-etko, and When I was Eight. Talk to me about Orange Shirt Day.
Today we made salsa from our garden. We used the green peppers, tomatoes and parsley. We did add a few more ingredients. We also tried fried zucchini. We talked about our names. We are learning the letters in our names.Today was a special day we learned about a special person named Terry Fox. Mrs. Kitson called him a hero. We ran around the school with all the kids in the school. We can still bring in money to donate to The Terry Fox Foundation. We watched the video below.

Today we went to the library and got a new book. We will be going to the library every Thursday. I should bring my book back every week so I can get a new one. We talked about rhyming. We played a rhyming game. We wrote in our life books and listened to a funny story by Robert Munsch. Ask me about the story. We practiced cutting shapes. We danced and played gonoodle. We had fun in music. We did an obstacle course. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.
Today we pulled carrots from our garden. We made zucchini, carrot muffins with zucchini and carrots from the school garden. Mrs. Kitson read us rhyming books. We listened for rhyming words in the stories. We can practice making our own rhymes at home. We are learning the names of our friends in our classroom. We talked about the letter S today. We looked at the names of children in our classroom that have s's. We practiced listening for the sound "S". Mrs. Kitson told us a funny S story. We helped her come up with "S " words. We talked about pets in our lifebooks. We clapped our names in music. We had fun playing with chalk on the playground. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.
Today we had fun playing in the snow. In the morning Mrs. Kitson read us a funny story. It was called Me first. Ask me about the sand witch. We also read lots of song books. We read and sang: Wheels on the Bus, Head and Shoulders, and Row, Row , Row your boat. We went to music. Mrs. Grau showed us special instruments. We had fun playing with balls in the gym. We played in the Maker space. We painted, played with the light table and built with blocks. We had a fun day in Kingergarten.
Today we had our pictures taken. Mrs, Kitson read us the book, A Walk in the Rain with a Brain. Ask me about the book. We drew a picture of ourselves on our lifebook. We will be telling stories in this journal all year. We looked closley at our tomatoes to see if there were any changes. We talked about how we think tomatoes turn red. We went to music and sand the song, Willowbee, and a name game song. Mrs. Grau played the drums. We went to the gym and played the game, don't burst my bubble, and no garbage in my backyard. Today we celebrated Canada. One of our parents brought in two deer, an antelope and a bear. He told us fun facts about all of the animals. We ate moose meat and made bannock. Mrs. D is the best cook! The Gingerbread man sent us a treasure box filled with books. We had our own talent show. We sang, danced and played the drums. We are all very talented. It was a fun last day in Kindergarten.

Today was our Kindergarten Celebration day. We sang and danced for our family. We received kindergarten certificates and watched a slideshow of our year in Kindergarten. We had a family picnic. We had lots of fun playing outdoor games. It was really, really hot!! We had so much fun.
An extra big thank you to Celina who read to both kindergarten classes all year long. She came twice a week and read to two children at a time. The children and I lover her!!!!
If you know anyone that would like to read to two children for 8 weeks once a week send me their information. I will be training new volunteers in the Fall. Happy Reading!!!
I am sad to say that Kindergarten is coming to a close so quickly. Remember to send in all library books. I have sent home notices of overdue books. Please send me an email if you believe you have returned the books that are on the overdue list. Our celebration is on June 22. I have sent a form home where you can indicate how many people will be attending. Our cowboy says have a great weekend!
We were so lucky to have the opportunity to go on The Edmonton Streetcar. A big thank you goes out to a very special grandma and grampa that made it happen!!!!! Thank you so much for the great experience and the treats. The children were excited to travel on the streetcar and see all the sights.
Today we went to The Wilderness Center. We went to the Fairy forest and built Fairy houses. We went on a scavenger hunt and we looked for lots of bus. We listened for birds and learned about different birds and the sounds they make. We had a great day outside in Nature.
Today we went to the grade one classes in the afternoon. We met the grade one teachers. We did a math activity with smarties. We made a special tile for The Project of Heart. We learned a new math game and we practiced our printing. We had a fund day in Kindergarten.
Today Candy came and taught us about what a Pow Wow is. Ask me what happens at a Pow Wow. We danced to special music and to the beat of a drum. We danced wearing special shawls. We learned about fancy dancing. We made up our own dances and we also did a round dance. In the afternoon we met new friends from the preschool. We were good leaders and played with our new friends. We had a dancing day in Kindergarten!
Today Mrs. Kitson read us the book, The Paper Caper. Ask me what the bear did in the story. We watched a video about how paper was made and then we made our own handmade paper. Ask me how we made it. Mrs.Kitson read us the books. Growing Vegetable Soup and Planting a Rainbow, by Lois Ehlert. We talked about how her collage pictures were like Eric Carle's pictures and how they were different. We made our own beautiful painted paper. We drew pepper plants in our nature notebook. We looked closely at the shape of the leaves of the plants and looked at the veins with our magnifying glasses. We had a paper kind of day in Kindergarten.
Today The RCMP brought two horses to our school. The horses were black. We learned that RCMP horses are always black. The horses were really nice. We were able to pet the horses. Mrs. Slemko came to our class and read us the story, Shi-shi-etko. She talked to us about residential schools. We thought it was sad that children were taken away from their parents. We painted our dragons and played with tangrams. We had a great day in Kindergarten.

Today we worked on making our own talking sticks. We used fur, leather and beads. We even painted our sticks. We read books and planted a garden. It was a great day in Kindergarten!
Today we went into the forest and we woke up the trees. We sang songs and told stories to our trees. Candy made a special tobacco pouch to give to the trees. We went for a nature walk and looked for signs of Spring. We also looked for a special stick to make our own talking sticks. Candy taught us special Indigenous games. One game was a hunter game where you had to throw a stick through a hoop. We also played Scream. You have to scream and run as far as you can. The children played this game to build up their lungs so they could run long distances. We had a great day playing outside.
We finished building our Gingerbread houses today. We wonder what The Gingerbread Man will think. We hope he comes back to look out our great houses. We made our Mother's Day present. We can't wait to give our present to our mothers. We probably won't wait till Mother's Day. We had fun playing in the castle and writing and drawing in our lifeboks. We practiced making words on the ipad and played checkers and tic tac toe. We had a fun day in Kindergarten!
Today we went to The Symphony. It was exciting to see all the instruments and the conductor. We remembered all the different songs. We thought the bear was funny. We danced and watched all the different musicians. We had a musical day in Kindergarten!
Today we went out to the forest. We saw many signs of Spring. We saw new leaves coming up on the ground. We saw a spider, butterflies and moths. We saw that some buds are starting. We saw a rabbit that was brown and grey. We heard The Canada Geese. We went for a long walk. There was a lot of water. Another sign of Spring is some of us had wet, wet shoes. We should wear our rubber boots to school and keep a pair of outdoor runners in our backpack. We played checkers and tic tac toe. We are learning strategies. We wrote letters and made our own books. We worked on our Gingerbread Man houses. We had a fun day in Kindergarten!
Today Mrs. Kitson taught us a new number game. We had to find different ways of making numbers. You can make five with a four and a one or a two and a three and a five and a zero. It is a fun dice game. We listened to a new Goldilocks and The Three Bears story. Ask me what was different about the story. We are bringing home a sequence story . We can retell The Three Bears story to you. We finished designing our tipis and we wrote in our lifebooks. We practiced saying the sounds in words. We used unifix cubes to mark each sound we heard. We are working on our Gingerbread man houses. We had a great day in Kindergarten.
Today we talked more about tipis and Indigenous spirit animals. We made our own tipis. We learned that circles on tipis are hills and triangles are mountains on some tipis. The circles on the top are stars on some tipis. We talked about what the different animals' messages were. Ask me what animal I chose. We made our own animal medallions. We drew a moose and a wolf in our nature notebook. We played a new domino game, and practiced listening to sounds in words. We practiced reading our little books with our friends. Remember to send my little book back everyday. It should stay in the outside pocket. I need to bring my book back to get another book. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.
Today Mrs. DeHaan brought in real beaver teeth. They are very long and orange. We saw all of the beaver's teeth, He has white teeth too. We are building our gingerbread man houses. We are using our new tools. We are working together building our houses. We are being our own teachers. We are learning about writing words and making books. We played handbells in music today. Mrs. Kitson is reading different Three Bears stories. We had a fund day in kindergarten.
Today we went to The Wilderness Center. We learned about The First Families of Alberta. We looked at furs, headresses, inuit clothing and glasses and lots of other artifacts. We played games with rocks and sticks. We had fun looking for colours in the forest. We saw where a porcupine had eaten a tree and where a beaver had cut down trees. We played with helicopter seeds. We can hardly wait to come back in June and see green grass!
Today we met a saw-whet owl named Ricky. He was adorable. We learned about three types of owls. The saw-whet owl, the great horned owl and the burrowing owl. Ask me what I learned about the owls. Today we started to build our gingerbread man houses. We played at language and numeracy centers. We are making books, writing our own words and playing games.
Today we looked at lots of pictures of beautiful stained glass windows. We noticed lines, shapes and lots of different colours in the artwork. We made our own stained glass windows. Mrs. Kitson read us the book, The Paper Bag Princess. It was a very funny story. We finished our plans for our gingerbread man houses. We are going to build them soon.
Today our friend Candy came to Kindergarten. She taught us all about tipis. Ask me what direction the door of the tipi faces. We learned what tipis are made of and where the first nations made their tipi villages. We made our own tipi villages and our own tipis. All the poles are special. We did a smudge with Candy. We had a great day in Kindergarten.
We are continuing to work on our floor plans for our Gingerbread Man houses. Our houses are going to be fun places for our friend. Some of the houses have lots of hot tub, swimming pools, gardens and playrooms. We finished working on our Line and shape pictures. We worked very hard on our pictures. They are all very beautiful. We read a new little book. We like to read our books to our family and pets. We played a new domino game where we looked for different ways to make the numbers from 4 to twelve. We have a castle in our classroom. It is so cool! We love playing dress up. We had a fun first day back to school.
Today we learned a new dice game. We read a new little book. We like reading our books when we get home. We are writing in our life books. We drew an eagle in our Nature notebook. An eagle means love in the Indigenous culture. We are practicing our letter sounds. When we write in our lifebooks we clap the sylablles in words and then listen for the sounds in each part of the words. We went to gym and played volleyball with balloons. We had fun at center time building and playing in The Manners House. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

Today Mrs. Kitson read the book, The Way to Start a Day. Ask me how different people around the world greet the sun. We went outside and watched the sun rise. It was beautiful. The sun was orange. We practiced printing frog jump letters. We wrote in our lifebooks. We like to add detail to our pictures. We played domino train and sorted special buttons. Mrs. Kitson read us the book,The Gingerbread Man. and The Leprechaun. The Leprechaun was very naughty. Ask us about what the leprechaun did in The Maker Space. We had a fun and sneaky day in Kindergarten.
Today we went out to the forest. We told stories in the Story Circle. We made different kinds of structures. We made playgrounds for birds, a pretend fire, a tipi, and lots of other structures. We found lots of letters in the woods too! We went on a long hike up a big hill. It was so beautiful out in the forest. In the morning we played with rhyme and played games with letter sounds. We went to the story loft with Spirit Bear and read a new little book. We sorted beautiful buttons that Mrs. DeHaan brought. They are so cool! We played Bump It and drew a picture on our new life books. We had a super fantastic day in Kindergarten!
Today we met a new friend. Her name is Candy. She taught us all about different animals and what they mean in The Indigenous culture. We talked about truth, love, and wisdom. We had a sharing circle and Candy led us in a smudge ceremony. We learned different cree words and played a game with cree words. Candy showed us drums and turtle rattles and lots of different hides and furs. We learned so much. We can't wait till she visits us again.
Today Mrs.Kitson read us the book, What Happens Next. It was about a little boy and a girl named Bullie B. Ask me about the story and how the boy talked to Bullie B. We talked about helping our friends make good decisions. We read a new littel book. We should have lots of little books at home now. We played rhyming games and played games with letter sounds. We played a new math game called Bump It. We are learning to see numbers without counting. We are playing in The Manners House and we made sand stories on the light table in The Maker Space. We had a fun day in Kindergaren
Today we went outside for the whole morning. We made stick structures. We found just the right stick to practice our letters in the snow. We played with our shadows. Mrs. Kitson told us a shadow story. We had outdoor story theater. We took turns telling stories to our friends. We played the game, Run and Scream. Ask me about the game. Mrs. Kitson read us the book, Lord of The Sky. It is an indigenous story about a boy, and eagle and a raven. We made bird shadows outside. We had a sunny, happy day!
Today we saw a real stuffed great owl. It was beautiful. Mrs. Kitson read us the book, Sometimes I feel Like a Fox. We talked about totem animals. We listened to The Mitten by Jan Brett and read our little books. We played a new dice game called Kindergarten Horse Race. The Gingerbread Man wrote us an email. Ask me what he said. We played outside and we had lots of fun in music class. We had a great day in Kindergarten!
Today we dissected owl pellets. We found lots of different bones, a skull and teeth. We matched them to the bones of a mouse. It was so cool! Mrs. Kitson read us the book, Ginger. We talked about making new friends. We practiced reading our little books. We played rhyming games and had fun singing songs in music class. We had a fun day in Kindergarten!
