Christmas Party Fun
December 9, 2019

Today we had our Christmas craft party. We made so many decorations. We made trees, gingerbread men, paper chains, beaded snowflakes, ice cream trees,tissue paper ornaments and lots more. We played lots of fun games too. We had fun in the gym. We are working hard learning our songs for The Christmas concert. We had a great Christmassy kind of day!

Wow, That is Cool!

Mr. Hill came to our class and showed us a cool science experiment. During centers we listened to many different poems. We heard lots of different rhyming words. We had fun going through an obstacle course with the scooters. We are practicing our songs for the Christmas concert. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

Art Like Kandinsky

Today Ms. S. read us the book, The Straight line Wonder by Mem Fox. We talked about Kandinsky's abstract work and the lines that he used in his art. Ms. S also read us the book, It's Mine, By Leo Lionni. We talked about being kind to one another. We talked about the food bank box. We talked about how we can help the people that need to go to the food bank. We talked about the letters G and O. We made up a silly story. We played rhyming games and we wrote kind letters to special people around the school. We worked on our painting. We added different kinds of lines. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

Today Ms. S talked to us about the artist, Wassily Kandinsky. We looked at some of his paintings and talked about what we noticed. Ask me about his paintings. We talked about different types of lines. We made our own line paintings with paint and masking tape. We chose how we put the masking tape on our painting to make our own unique masterpieces. Ms. S read us the book, The Mixed- Up Chameleon. We talked about what makes us unique. We drew pictures in our lifebooks and played a rhyming game with Ms. S. We talked about the letters d and m. We are practicing for the Christmas concert. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

Exploring Trees
November 23, 2019

Today we had an art day. We made trees with different materials. We made a beaded tree. We made trees out of different shapes. We explored different materials made of wood and we made a water colour painting. Ms, S read us the book, The Grand Old Tree. We went to the gym and practiced our mind moves. We are getting better at balancing. We had fun playing in the autoshop and the hair salon. It was a great day in Kindergarten.

Elder Wilson Comes to Visit
November 20, 2019

Today Elder Wilson came to talk with us. He talked about nature and how the trees and all of nature are our relatives. He told us how when he was a little boy he learned the trees gave his mother medicine. The sap of the tree healed wounds on horses and on people. He taught us the dance of the raven and the dance of the deer. He played his drum and he also made the sound of a loon with his hands. Ms. S talked to us about the trees she saw on a trip to British Columbia. We looked closely at the pictures of the trees. We looked closely at real bark and a tree trunk. We went out to the forest. It was magical. We made the trees snow on us. We shook the trunks and it snowed. We looked at all the different tree trunks/ We talked about colours, shapes, lines and texture. We came in to class and drew tree trunks, We are practicing songs for The Christmas concert. We had fun at Wondertime. It was a great day in Kindergarten

The Manners House
November 19, 2019

Today we talked about manners. We watched a video that taught us how to set a table and how to greet someone. We learned to be kind and push someone's chair in. We have fancy clothes in the House center. We also have an auto shop and a hairdressing salon in the classroom. We had fun going on a pattern walk with Ms. S. We made pattern pictures with Mrs. D and played sound games with Mrs. Kitson. We had fun playing a gym game outside. It was called Builders and Wreckers. We ran a lot. We had a fun day in Kindergaren.

The Brain
November 6, 2019

Today our friend, Asma came and talked to us about the brain. She showed us different fruits and vegetables and told us our brain weighed as much as a fruit and was as big as a certain vegetable. Ask me what vegetable is as big as our brain and which fruit weighs as much as our brain. Ask me what our brain feels like. She told us about a part of the brain that tells us to freeze, flee or fight. It is called the amygdala. We will be learning alot more about the brain with Mrs. K. We played lots of letter sound games with the letters: s,a,t,p, i,n,c and k. We went on a scavenger hunt, played letter sound bingo. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

Rock Study
November 5, 2019

Today Ms. S read us the book, A World of Kindness. We talked about ways to be kind to one another. We talked about filling our imaginary buckets. Ask me what filling a bucket means. The Gingerbread Man sent us a book. It was called, The Gingerbread Man Loose in the School. We made Missing posters. We put them in the hallway. We hope someone has seen our friend, The Gingerbread Man. We practiced our letter sounds, s,a,t,p, i, n, and ck. Mrs. Kitson moved the letters around and made words. We played letter sound go fish and swat the letter. Ms. S. read us a story about Georgia Okeeffe. She is an artist. She painted beautiful flowers. We looked closely at poppies and drew our own poppies with pastels. We had fun at center time at our new rock center. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

Shadows Shadows

Today we had Fantastic Friday. We played with many different literacy games. We played The Cat in The Hat stretchy letter game. It is like twister. We made books. We made a letter town. We painted the letters, s,a,t,p. i and n. We played with letters on the light table. The Gingerbread Man sent us a letter and said he was excited to learn his letter sounds. Halloween Fun

Today we had our Halloween party. We made lots of Halloween crafts. We made beaded spiders, ghosts,masks,pumpkins,and bats. We played lots of Halloween games. We played ghost bowling, Witch Hat Toss and Bite The Marshmallow. We had a fun lunch with mummy hotdogs. Ms. S read us the books, Five Little Pumpkins and Witch, Witch. Mrs Kitson played The Halloween Memory game with us and we ended the day with The Cat in The Hat's Whip Cream Pie Face game. We had a spooky good day!

The Three Questions

Today Ms Spisak, our student teacher brought in her rocks collection. She had so many different rocks. We talked about how the rocks felt and how they looked. We picked a special rock to look at. We talked about how the rock made us feel. She read us the book, If you Find a Rock.

We Love Nature

Today we went to Strathcona Wilderness Center. It was a beautiful day to be outside. We learned about how to be safe in the woods. Ask me about the special sign we made. Ask me what I should put in my backpack. We went on a nature hike and found lots of different colours in the forest. We found bugs and played a running game. We felt different kinds of hides of animals that live in our forest. We had a fun day at The Wilderness Center.

We Love Sparky

Today Sparky came to visit our class. We learned all about fire safety. We should make a fire safety plan for our house. Ask me what Sparky taught us. In the afternoon we went for a nature walk. Introducing our Student Teacher

We have a new friend in our Kindergarten class. She is our student teacher. Her name is Cecile Spisak.She will be here until Christmas time. We are all excited to learn many new things with our student teacher. Ask me about the songs she taught us. Today we practiced our cutting skills. We have to remember to keep our thumbs up while we are cutting. We talked about our feelings. We took a feeling stone and told our friends how we were feeling and why. Some of our friends were sad. We talked about what we could do if we noticed someone was sad. One of our ideas was to give our friend a hug. We gave everyone a big hug. We played emotions bingo. We built creative creations. We had lots of fun in music, singing and dancing. We had a great day in Kindergarten.

Reading Week A Special Visitor
October 9, 2019

Today we had two special visitors. We had a school trustee come in to read to us for Reading Week. He read us funny Dr. Seuss books. Elwood the Elk also came to visit. He taught us about bus safety. We went on the bus and practiced going out the back door. Ask me about the 5 safety rules. Today we talked about our tomatoes. We talked about our theories on how tomatoes turn red. We are going to do our own experiments to see if we can help the tomatoes turn red. We sang the Thumbkin song and we pretended we were inside a bubble. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

Where did He Go?

Today we made gingerbread men cookies. We talked about all the ingredients in the cookies. When we went to take our cookies out of the oven the big gingerbread man that Mrs. Kitson made was gone. We looked all over the school for him. We couldn't find him.

Rhyming Fun

Today Mrs. Kitson read us the book, Fire, Fire said Mrs. McGuire. It was a rhyming book. Mrs. Kitson also read us different rhyming poems. We are getting good at listening for rhyming words. We will be playing with rhymes throughout the year. We had fun playing fine motor games. We build a cootie and played the wok game. Ask me about the games. We practiced our cutting skills. We cut out a school bus with lots of different shapes. We practiced our mindful moves. We stretched and relaxed and practiced our slow breathing. We had fun at wondertime. Orange Shirt Day

Today Mrs. Kitson read us the story, Shi Shi Etko. It was about a little girl that was sent away to school. We talked about orange shirt day. We talked about how we should all treat each other with kindness and respect. We talked about times of the day, morning, afternoon and evening. We drew pictures of what we do during these times. We sorted and categorized different objects. Ask me to help you sort things around the house. We had a tower challenge. We tried to build the highest tower out of blocks. We listened to a classic book, Harry the Dirty Dog. Do you remember that book? We made up a funny N story. We can make up our own letter stories at home. Ask me how. Making New Friends

We are making new friends in Kindergarten. We love playing in the house center and dressing up like our moms and dads. Today we played a fun rhyming game. We listened carefully for rhymes and then drew a funny martian. We played a math puzzle game. We played an alphabet fishing game.We matched numerals to domino numbers. We talked about the letter P. Mrs. Kitson told us a funny story about a pink pig who liked to eat purple potatoes. We dug up purple potatoes from our school garden. We talked about Terry Fox. We drew Terry Fox in our lifebook. He is a real hero.We ran around the school yard for Terry Fox. We were very tired. It was a fun day in KIndergarten.

Our New Microscope

Today we picked all the tomatoes from the garden. They are not ripe yet. We talked about our theories on how tomatoes turn red. Ask me what my theory is. We talked about rhyming and sang the song Willaby Wallaby Woo. It is a fun song with made up words that rhyme with our names. We talked about sorting. Mrs. Kitson sorted kids into groups and we had to guess what her sorting rule was. We listened to the book. Grandma and the Pirates. We practiced sorting animals into groups and we made our names with playdough and wikisticks. We drew in our lifebook and talked about what we learned at Safety City. Mrs Kitson read us the book, Eating the Alphabet. We have lots of the vegetables in our garden. We can play the alphabet game the next time we shop at the grocery store. We went on our first nature walk in the forest. It was beautiful in the forest. Ask me what we saw. It was a fun day in Kindergarten.

Today we went to Safety City. We learned the 7 Safety Rules. Ask me about the rules. We had so much fun riding the quads. Our parent volunteers helped us learn about safety rules around the house. It was a great day!

Today we went to the garden and harvested, beets, carrots and zucchinis. We had lots of fun washing and grating the vegetables. We made muffins with the vegetables. The muffins were yummy. We talked about the letters s , t, a and z. We practiced making the sounds. We started the day with our mind moves. We are practicing, stretching, balancing and breathing. We worked in our lifebook and played a fun caterpillar game. We made rainbow letters. We made special structures using lots of different shapes and sizes of rectangles. We had fun in music. Vincent Van Gogh and The Sunflowers

Today we went out to the second school garden and looked at the plants. We saw onions, potatoes, tomatoes, pumpkin plants without pumpkins and flowers. We saw huge sunflower plants. We took one inside and studied it. We drew the sunflower in our nature notebooks and we also painted the sunflower. Mrs. Kitson read us a book about a famous artist named Vincent Van Gogh, Ask me about the story. Some of our friends brought in cool items from nature, We saw a tree with a hole in it. A cool wasp nest and a two year old moose antler. We talked about the letters S and T. Mrs. Kitson made up funny stories with the letters. We played a dice game and we sorted buttons. Today we pulled out one of our zucchini plants from the garden. We looked at the leaves, the flowers, the stems and of course the zucchini squash. Mrs. DeHaan read the funny book, The Killer Zucchini. Ask me about the story. We drew the zucchini in our nature notebooks. We talked about the letter Z. We made zucchini chips. We talked about our the letters in our names. Most of our friends have a letter A in their name. We talked about the sound letter A makes. We made rainbow letters and we coloured the ant picture. Ask me what motion I make when I say the letter A. (hint, hint ants crawling up my arm) I will be bringing home letter pages. We can practice the letters at home too. We made cool structures at the imagination station. We listened to the story, A Colour of his own. Ask me about the story. We went to the gym and played a number game. We had to run around and when Mrs. K blew the whistle we had to make a group of 5 or 4 or 3 etc. We had fun playing at Wondertime. We like dressing up in the house center.

Our First Day with all of our Friends

Today was our first full day of Kindergarten. We made many new friends. We went and looked at the school garden. We pulled out a big radish plant. We learned that you can eat the radish seed pods. They were a little like pea pods but a bit spicy. We drew the radish plant in our nature notebook. We looked at lines and shapes when we drew our radish plant. We listened to the story, The little Mouse and the Big Red Apple. We played at the imagination station and made our own unique creations. We went to the big gymnasium and played the animal game. We went to the music room and sang songs with Mrs. Grau. Ask me to sing you a song.We had lots of fun at Wondertime playing in the house center, painting, building and making designs on the light table. We had a great day in Kindergarten!

Elder Wilson Comes to Visit

Today Elder Wilson came to visit. We danced and he sang and drummed. He told us how he makes music.Ask me what he listens to. We made our own talking stick today. We can use it at the dinner table tonight. We had our talent show this afternoon. It was lots of fun. We sure do love Old Town Road.

Kindergarten Year End Celebration

Today we celebrated our Kindergarten Year. We sang and danced and had lots of fun doing The Chihuahua Dance with our parents and friends. We played games in the gym with our family. It was so much fun!

Today we had a math morning. We played lots of fun math games. We had fun at center time playing with the fairy costumes and drawing fairies. We also played in The Maker Space. It was a fun day in Kindergarten.

Learning about the Cree Language

Today we had a special visitor. He taught some words in Cree. Our visitor was really nice. It is fun to learn new words. We made a Cree Brown Bear book. We drew the wood frog in our nature journal. We listened to frog sounds. We went to the Gathering Space and listed to a talk on farm safety. We learned that if there is only one seat there should only be one rider.

The Bannock Bread Boy

Today Mrs. Kitson read us the book, The Giving Tree, by Leah Dorian. It is a Metis story about a special tree. Ask me what is special about the tree. We went on a nature hunt and found different coloured flowers. We saw blue bells and yellow bell flowers. We saw little white flowers too. When we got to one of our special trees we found a box. Inside the box was a note. It was from The Giving Tree. In the box there was the book, The Bannock Bread Boy, flour, baking powder and salt. We made bannock. It was delicious. We planted our space tomatoes. It was a great day in Kindergarten.

Toad vs. Frog

Today we found a frog on our playground, He was under our hose. Mr. Hill, the junior High science teacher brought us an aquarium filled with frogs. We looked up information about the frogs. We found out the big one we found was a toad. Ask me about the differences between a toad and a frog. It was a special day. We went to grade one. It was lots of fun. We had a fun day in KIndergarten and grade one.

Today we went into the forest. The forest has changed so much. We went to visit our tree and we drew our tree in our nature notebooks. We collected lots of sticks to make fairy houses. Today Mrs. Kitson read us the books, Polar Bear, Polar Bear What do you Hear? and Panda Bear, Panda Bear What do you Seer? We played a listening game. We tried to identify the animal that went with the sound. It was really hard. Do you know what a panda bear or a zebra sounds like? We made our own Eric Carle collages. It was fun sharing different papers that we had painted. We played a new math game calle Number Face Off. We talked about numbers that are greater than and less than. We wrote in our lifebooks and we are bringing home a new little book to read. We had fun at music. Our garden is starting to grow. We had a fun day in KIndergarten.

Today we had special visitors. They were chickens. Our friend talked to us about the special chickens. They were pretty cool. We talked about their eggs, and how they drink water. Fun in the Garden

Today we went outside and planted in our new garden boxes. We also planted sunflower seeds against the school wall. We are excited to see our plants grow. Ask me what seed I planted. We practiced printing letters that all start with Magic C. We are taking home some of our printing books today. Remind me to always start at the top and use the correct pencil grasp. Mrs. Kitson read us the book, All the Places I Love. We talked about the places we love to go. Most of our places were in nature. We had a picnic outside. We had fun in music and at Wondertime.

The International Space Station
May 10, 2019

Today we set up our own International Space Station. We found out which of our tomato seeds went to Space. Kids all across Canada and The United States planted special tomato seeds. Our new garden boxes arrived today. Next week we will be planting outside. We should dress in clothes that we can get dirty. If we have gloves or little shovels we can bring them to school. We are learning about Eric Carle. He is an illustrator and author. We learned how he made his special pictures. We made a story on our story mat. We played a math game where we looked at the dice and used the strategy of counting on the biggest number. We practiced writing sight words. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

Making our Own Centers

Today we made our own centers at Wondertime. One of our centers was the drawing center. Our friends gave us lessons on how to draw different things. Today we started our printing program. We learned that we always start our numbers from the top. We made frog jump capitals. Ask me what that means. We made pictures out of shapes. We looked at 3D shapes and tested whether they would roll or slide or do both. We made a shape colour monster book. We had to look for the beginning letter to see what colour to colour the shapes. We wrote in our lifebooks. We had fun playing outside. It was a fun first day back.

Today we watched a video story. It was an Inuit legend called, The Owl and the Raven. Ask me about the story. Mrs.Kitson showed us an owl pellet. Ask me what an owl pellet is. We took the owl pellet apart and looked inside. You can see what we found inside at Student Parent Teacher Interviews. The Gingerbread man sent us an email. He sent us a funny book about a leprechaun and the gingerbread man. It was a good book. We are bringing home our "at" book. We talked about the at family.We worked on our houses and we learned how to draw our portraits. We also painted the window in The Maker Space. Mrs. Kitson talked to us about the artist, Wassily Kandinsky. Ask me about his art. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

Castle Days Begin
March 11, 2019

Today we set up a castle in our classroom. We have lots of dress up clothes and fancy dishes. We played a special math game today called, Finger Trails. We also played a math game with cards and dice. We made a little book. We talked about snap words. Some people call them popcorn words, because they keep popping up when you are learning to read. We read the word can and made rhymes with word can. We can decorate a little box and keep our books in it. We can practice reading the books with our family. We wrote in our lifebook. We are learning to stretch out the sounds in words. Mrs. Kitson read us the book, Little Red Riding Hood. We will be reading lots of fairy tales. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

Today Mrs. Kitson read us the book, A Bad Week for The Three Bears. Ask me about Goldilocks. Mrs. Kitson also read us the book, The Mitten, by Jan Brett. We made our own mitten books. We can practicre reading the books at home with our family. We played a new game with dice and a ruler. We used a special dice, with a small dice inside a big dice. We had to see which number was biger and then count on. We talked about the letter Z. We made words on the ipads with the letters: s,a,t,p, i and n. Mrs Kitson read us a funny book. It was called, Somebody and The Three Blairs. Ask me what was different about this book. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

The Three Bears

Today Mrs. Kitson read us two different Goldilocks and The Three Bears stories, one was called, The Three Bears and one was called, Goldilocks. Ask me about the different endings of the stories. We are starting a project. We will be building our own special house. Today we drew the plans for our house. We talked about the letter Y. We talked about how y and w are tricky letters. We wrote in our lifebooks about The Three Bears stories. We practiced copying print. We practiced our subitizing skills with the shaker dice. We had an indoor recess. It is still so cold outside. We had a fun day in KIndergarten.

Hawaii Day in Kindergarten

Today it was Hawaii Day in KIndergarten. Mrs. Kitson read the books, The Pig Kuhana, and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. We made our own coconut trees. We made leis and made a beach book. We had a tasting table where we tasted; pineapple, cocount, bananas, mangos, dragon fruit and pomellos. Ask me what fruits I liked. Mrs.Kitson brought in real clams and oysters. We learned about the insides of these shellfish. Ask me about a special foot. We played beach games in the gym and we did the limbo. The girls danced for the boys a special Hawaii hula and the boys danced for the girls. The boys dance was really hard but the girls said they could do it too. It was a ALOHA day in KIndergarten.

Today some of us played a new game at Wondertime. It is called, Paul Frank, Boatload of Fun. You have to find a picture of the gameboard. It is really hard, but fun. Mrs. Kitson read us the book, Alphabet on Stage. It is special ABC book. We also listened to the book, Caps for Sale and retold the story on Seesaw. Today we played with special play dough. We played with chocolate and cinnamon sparkle playdough. We made our own chocolates. Today we had indoor recess again. Mrs, Kitson read us the book, Bloom, Ask me about the book. It was about a real person. Mrs. DeHaan read the book, Perfect Petunias. Ask me about making mistakes. We made patterns with unifix cubes and then painted our patterns. We had to think hard about our pattern because we couldn't always use the same colours. We talked about the letter v and played the game Bump It. It is a subitizing game. Look for a video about subitizing on Seesaw.  We had a fun day at school!

Today we talked about what play is. We watched a video of children playing different games all over the world. We played all day at school. We made up our own games. One of the things we said was that playing is sharing. We had a playful fun day in Kindergarten.

Today it was so cold outside that the buses did not run. We had 1/2 our class at school. We finished colouring our birds. We played in The Learning Common. We built structures with the grade one children. We made cookies out of pancake mix. We went to music and sang our favourite songs. We had fun playing with puppets at Wondertime. We had a cozy day in Kindergarten.

Today Mrs. Kitson read us the book, Wordy Birdy. Ask me about the book. Some of us are wordy birdies. Ask me what that means. We played a dice game. It was really hard. We rolled the dice and had to colour in the number that when we added it to the dice number it made 10. We should try this at home. We used jewels to add on to the number on the dice. We talked about the letter J. We wrote in our lifebooks. We are clapping sylabbles and stretching out the words to hear the sounds. We played a game where we had to really listen. Mrs Kitson would say a word and we had to say the word without the first sound. (say bat, now say bat with out the "B".) It is hard to do. We talked about different kinds of lines. We drew our own wordy bird. We took our time and we are going to work on our birds tomorrow. We sang funga alafia in music. Ask me to sing you the song. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

Today Mrs. Kitson read us the books, Are You my Mother and Some Birds. They were both about birds. We love the beautiful illustrations in the Some Birds book. We finished our bird books and we worked hard on our patterning books. We made a seesaw recording of our ABC sounds. We are working hard learning our letters and sounds. Mrs. Kitson read us a book about Grumpy Cat. We used our feeling stones and talked about how we felt and why. Mrs. Kitson made up a happy poem and a grumpy poem. They were funny poems.We had a silly, happy day in Kindergarten.

Bird Beak Discovery

Today we talked about bird beaks. Birds have lots of different kinds of beaks. We did an experiment with different tools and kinds of food to see which tool (beak) was the best to pick up different kinds of food. Ask me about the experiment. Ask me what kind of bird I was and what kind of beak I had. We made clay owls with Mrs. D. Mrs, Kitson read us the book, Raven. It was about the sun. We worked in our number book and we talked about the letter B. It was a fun day in Kindergarten.

Today we talked about eagles. Ask me about the different eagles. Mrs. Kitson pretended she was an alien from outerspace and we had to tell her what a bird is. Ask me what is special about birds. We drew pictures in our bird books. We looked at the shapes of the birds bodies and beaks. We are making a number book. We are practicing writing numbers. We showed Mrs. Kitson what we know about rhyming. It is on Seesaw. We talked about the letter B. We made different patterns with two different colours. We can make patterns for you at home. We can look for patterns in our house. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

Maker Space Game

Today we talked about birds. We learned about their special eyelids. We talked about the difference between a crow and a raven. Ask me what some of the differences are. We practiced our letter sounds. We made words with the letters: s,a,t,p,i,n. We wrote a sentience in our lifebook and practiced writing the word like. We read our own little book, Food I like. We can practice reading and pointing to the words. We our making a special pattern number book. We are working on making different patterns using two attributes. We stayed in for recess because it was so, so cold outside. We started to paint our birdhouses. When we bring them home we should spray them with a special protective coating so the paint doesn't wash off. Remeber to use the nails that were sent home to secure the bird house. We had a busy, fun day in Kindergarten.

Today we built our own bird houses. We were very good at following directions. We played a tree building game. We had to be careful not to knock our branches off the tree. We played with our new friends in KT at recess. It was a busy fun day!

Today we started talking about the winter birds of Alberta. We are making our own bird book. We saw pictures of woodpeckers, sparrowsn redpolls and lots of other birds. Mrs. Kitson read us the book, Raven's Feast. It is an indigenous story. Ask me about the story. We talked about the letter L. We made AB patterns and other patterns with two colours.We wrote in our life books. We are learning to write the snap word, like. We went to music and sang songs. Ask me to sing you a song. We went outside in the forest. There was a big tipi in the forest made of sticks. We decided to build our own tipi. We listened for birds. We layed down and listened to the sounds of the forest. It was a beautiful day in the forest.

First We Grind the Wheat

Today we ground the wheat that one of our classmates brought to school from her farm. We made bread. We talked about the ingredients. We even put in canola oil. We remember that our friend brought in canola for us to see. We made our own buns and butter. Mrs. Kitson read us the books, The Little Red Hen and The Little Red Hen Makes Pizza. We had a fun day in Kindergarten!

We have a bird house in our classroom. We will be learning about different birds. Today we started to learn how to weave. We are making our own blankets.. We are always practicing our letters and sounds. We look for letters in the letters the Gingerbread man sends us. We search for letters around the room. We make letters with playdough and write rainbow letters. Today we talked about the letter G. We read our letters on Seesaw. Look for our new post. We are making patterns with different objects. The Polar Express

Today Mrs. Kitson read the book, The Polar Express. We pretended we were on a train and we even had hot chocolate and marshmallows. We played different board games. We are learning to take our turn and help our friends learn new games. In the afternoon we went to see the Elementary Christmas concert. We had a super fun day in Kindergarten.

Today we met new friends and practiced for The Christmas Concert! We can hardly wait until tonight. We need to be in our classroom at 6:00 p.m. Our class will put their coats and boots in the Boot room and then go to The Kindergarten Classroom!

Letter Detective

Today we played letter detective. We searched for letters around the room. We wrote the lower case letters and matched the letters with the upper case letters. We worked on the iPad listening to sounds and making three letter words. We talked about the letter H. We are making our own alphabet books. We played a new memory game. It is called Hear and Seek. We had to remember sounds not pictures. We made our special Christmas present for our family. It is breakable. It is wrapped in tissue paper in our kanga pouches. We practiced for the Christmas concert. We had a great day in Kindergarten.

Christmas Concert December 18

The Christmas concert will be held on December 18th. Both Kindergarten classes are coming to school together on this day. There will be a matinee performance at 1:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend. The evening concert begins at 6:30 p.m. All students should be brought to the Kindergarten classroom at 6:00. The Kindergarten students are performing at the beginning of the concert and at the end of the concert. Please pick up your child in The Kindergarten classroom after the performance. The children can dress in their Christmas fancy clothing. The girls will have a costume change. They will be wearing Hawaiian skirts for the second song. They can wear a red, white, or green shirt and tights (black, white red, green) for this number. If you want them to wear a fancy dress for the first number please send a change of clothes.
Remember there is no Kindergarten class on December 19th.

Today we had our Christmas Party. We made so many different Christmas crafts. We made reindeer, stars, ornaments and a big long Christmas chain. We played games and decorated cookies. We had an awesome day in Kindergarten.

Today Mrs. Kitson read us the story, The Rainbow Crow. We drew our own rainbow crows. Ask me how the rainbow crow turned black. The Gingerbread man came to our classroom. If we wrote him a letter he wrote a letter back to us. He is a funny gingerbread man. We practiced our letters: s,a,t,.p.i, n,m,d,and our new letter c. We can practice these letters and sounds at home too. We played a new math game called pattern block builder. We had fun at wonder time writng more letters to Gingy. It was a fun day in Kindergarten.

Today Mrs. Kitson read us the book, Backyard Birds. We learned about an artist named Robert Bateman. He loves birds. He told a story about loving to watch chickadees when he was eight years old. We looked at his paintings. He is a beautiful artist. We made our own chickadee Paintings. Mrs Kitson read us the book, Have you seen Birds by Barbara Reid. She is an artist who makes pictures with plastercine. We sorted on the ipad on Seesaw. We played Bump It, and cut out a sequence Gingerbread Man story. We played with basketballs, sponge balls, and hoops in gym. We made up our own games. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

Forest Fun

Today we went out to the Forest. We found animal tracks. We think they were wolf and deer tracks. We listened for chickadees. Instead of chickadees we hear a loud grow. We made up a story about The Fultonvale Growler. Ask me about The Growler. We looked at the branches on the trees. We talked about what kinds of lines we saw. We saw curvy, wiggly and bumpy lines. We found some christmas trees. Mrs. Kitson talked to us about how these trees are called coniferous trees and they keep their needles all year long. We went for a long walk. It was a beautiful day in the forest. When we got back to the class we drew pictures of the Growler. The Gingerbread Man sent us a present. It was a writing box. We started writing letters to our friend, the Gingerbread Man. He sent us an email too. We practiced our sounds by circling letters in the email. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

Subitizing in Kindergarten

In Kindergarten we practice looking at groups of objects and work on seeing the numbers without counting. We play card games and dice games. Dominoes is also a great game to play to practice subitizing. Mrs. Kitson read us a book about Remembrance Day. She brought in a picture of a soldier. It was a picture of her dad. We talked about being good to the person you are with. We are practicing our letters; s,a,t,p,i and n. We can look for those letters when you are reading us a book. We can also use the letters that Mrs. Kitson sent home to practice our sounds. We can move the letters around to make words if we know our sounds. We talked about compound words. Ask me what a compound word is. We had a fund day in Kindergarten.

Sparky came to Visit

Today Sparky came to visit. He talked to us about Fire Safety. Ask me what I should do if I see matches. We talked about a meeting spot. Where should we meet if there is a fire in our house? We talked about what we should do if our clothes catch on fire. Ask me what we should do. Today we talked about sorting animals in different ways. We played a new card game. We practiced our letter sounds, "s,a,t,p,and our new sound "n" We can look for these letters when you read us a book at night. We sang the song, Little Engine Number 9 and played instruments. Mrs. Kitson read us the book, Wonky, Donkey. It is really funny. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

Today we learned about an artist named Georgia O'Keeffe. She liked to paint really big flowers. She said she liked to look closely at the flowers before she painted. We looked closely at poppies today. We used special pastels and made beautiful flowers. We are all artists, just like Georgia. She said she knew she would be an artist when she was a little kid just like us. We talked about sorting today. We sorted different animals. We made our own sorting groups. Ask me to sort something at home. We talked about the letter "i" today. We sang songs in music class. I can sing a song for you. We turned the house into a fire station today. Today we had a Halloween party. We made ghosts, witches and black cats. We laced a pumpkin and made a beaded spider. We played lots of fun games. We played ghost pie face, and Bite the marshmallow. We played ghost bowling and water ghost race. We played lots of other games too. We had mummy hot dogs for lunch. It was a spooky fun day in Kindergarten.

Today Mrs. Kitson read us lots of Halloween books. Ask me about the scary carrots, or the little mummy. We played a fun card game and played roll a pumpkin. We practiced our cutting skills. We made a spider. We drew in our nature notebooks and talked about what we learned at The Wilderness Center. We had fun in music class. We had lots of fun playing in The Halloween House. It was a fun day in Kindergarten.

We made our own magnificent creations in The Maker Space. We learned a new math game. We used playing cards. We are practicing seeing numbers up to10 without counting. We cut and coloured pumpkins. The Wilderness Center

Today we went to the Wilderness Center. We learned about what we should do if we were Lost in The Woods. We brought back a special bag. Ask me what is in the bag. We made a special S.O.S sign out of sticks. We also listed to a story about a boy named Calvin. Ask me about the story. We went into the woods and pretended to be a nature detective. We learned all about our wild animals. Ask me what animals I learned about. It was a beautiful day at The Wilderness Center.

Today we talked about bus safety and drew buses in our lifebooks. We are learning to look for shapes when we draw. We talked about the letter T. We are making our own alphabet books. Ask me what the answers are. We talked about sorting. We talked about what we sort at home and why we sort. We had a fun time playing at Wondertime. We love to dance in music. Today we went into the Forest. We went for a long walk. We walked through tall grass. It was really hot! We made the letter A and the letter S out of sticks and leaves. S was really hard to make the letter S. It has curves. We had to find bendable sticks. Mrs. Kitson read us the story, My Tree Named Steve. It was a special friend tree. We looked closely at natural objects called artifacts. We drew different artifacts in our nature journal. Mrs. Kitson brought a plant from her garden We guessed what it was. We didn't know. It was brussel sprouts. We had a sunshine kind of day in Kindergaren.

Today The Gingerbread Man sent us an email. He said he really enjoyed his hot lunch. He is still on a big adventure. He sent us a special book. It was called, The Gingerbread Man, Loose in the School. We talked about the letter: S and the Letter. We practiced our cutting and colouring. We played a new math game. It is called, Power of 10. We are practicing seeing numbers without counting. It is called subitizing. We went on the school bus and learned about bust safety. It was a fun day in Kindergarten.

Today one of our friends brought in canola and wheat. We watched a video about how canola oil is made. We had never seen canola seed before. Mrs. D said she can bring her flour mill to grind the wheat. We can make our own flour. We talked about what tree trunks look like. They are all so different. They are not all brown and straight. We talked about syllables. We clapped our names and different words. We are making our own ABC books. We talked about the letter S. We went to the library. We should bring our books back every week so we can get new books. We had a fun day in Kindergarten

Forest Day
October 5, 2018

Today Mrs. Kitson read the books, The Busy Tree and The Inside Tree. Ask me what happened when the man brought the tree inside his house. Mrs. Kitson also showed us pictures of art made in the forest. We went out to the forest and visited our tree. We also made a big group picture with leaves. It was hard to find red leaves. Mrs. D made leaf prints with us. We found a special leaf and then we used a hammer to make a leaf print. We built with sticks and leaves and went for a nature walk. We looked closely at the trees. We thought tree trunks were brown. We noticed that they were not brown at all. We talked about the colour and texture of the tree trunks. We had a great day in Kindergarten.

Where is The Gingerbread Man?

Today Mrs.Kitson read us the story, The Gingerbread Man. We made gingerbread cookies. We made a big gingerbread man. When we went to get our cookies, the big gingerbread man was gone. We looked all over the school. There were clues all over the school. We saw crumbs. We even thought we saw a leg under Mrs. Kihn's desk. We looked so hard for him but we didn't find him. He sent us an email. He said he went on an adventure. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

Today we went out into the Forest. We talked about safety rules in the forest. We looked for a special tree that we could our own. We will be visiting our tree throughout the school year. We had a fire drill today. We practiced getting out of the school safely. We talked about what orange day meant. Mrs. Kitson read us the book, Shi-shi-etko, and When I was Eight. Salsa From our Garden

Today we made salsa from our garden. We used the green peppers, tomatoes and parsley. We did add a few more ingredients. We also tried fried zucchini. We talked about our names. We are learning the letters in our names.Today was a special day we learned about a special person named Terry Fox. Mrs. Kitson called him a hero. We ran around the school with all the kids in the school. We can still bring in money to donate to The Terry Fox Foundation. We watched the video below.

Today we went to the library and got a new book. We will be going to the library every Thursday. I should bring my book back every week so I can get a new one. We talked about rhyming. We played a rhyming game. We wrote in our life books and listened to a funny story by Robert Munsch. Ask me about the story. We practiced cutting shapes. We danced and played gonoodle. We had fun in music. We did an obstacle course. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

Today we pulled carrots from our garden. We made zucchini, carrot muffins with zucchini and carrots from the school garden. Mrs. Kitson read us rhyming books. We listened for rhyming words in the stories. We can practice making our own rhymes at home. We are learning the names of our friends in our classroom. We talked about the letter S today. We looked at the names of children in our classroom that have s's. We practiced listening for the sound "S". Mrs. Kitson told us a funny S story. We helped her come up with "S " words. We talked about pets in our lifebooks. We clapped our names in music. We had fun playing with chalk on the playground. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

Today we had fun playing in the snow. In the morning Mrs. Kitson read us a funny story. It was called Me first. Ask me about the sand witch. We also read lots of song books. We read and sang: Wheels on the Bus, Head and Shoulders, and Row, Row , Row your boat. We went to music. Mrs. Grau showed us special instruments. We had fun playing with balls in the gym. We played in the Maker space. We painted, played with the light table and built with blocks. We had a fun day in Kingergarten.

Today we had our pictures taken. Mrs, Kitson read us the book, A Walk in the Rain with a Brain. Ask me about the book. We drew a picture of ourselves on our lifebook. We will be telling stories in this journal all year. We looked closley at our tomatoes to see if there were any changes. We talked about how we think tomatoes turn red. We went to music and sand the song, Willowbee, and a name game song. Mrs. Grau played the drums. We went to the gym and played the game, don't burst my bubble, and no garbage in my backyard. We played outside. In the afternoon we had fun at wondertime. Ask me what i played with. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

Today we greeted half of our new KM Class. We had a busy day. We met new friends and played with new toys. Mrs. Kitson read us the books, Off to Kindergarten and The Kissing Hand. We talked about how we felt coming to kindergarten for the first time. We had many different feelings; nervous, sad, excited,and happy. We went out to the school garden and picked our own tomato. We talked about the different plants and drew them in our nature notebook. We played outside and talked about playing safe on the playground. We went to music and met our music teacher, Mrs. Grau. Ask me about the song we learned. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

Celebrating Canada on our Last Day in Kindergarten
June 27, 2018

Today we celebrated Canada. One of our parents brought in two deer, an antelope and a bear. He told us fun facts about all of the animals. We ate moose meat and made bannock. Mrs. D is the best cook! The Gingerbread man sent us a treasure box filled with books. We had our own talent show. We sang, danced and played the drums. We are all very talented. It was a fun last day in Kindergarten.

Today was our Kindergarten Celebration day. We sang and danced for our family. We received kindergarten certificates and watched a slideshow of our year in Kindergarten. We had a family picnic. We had lots of fun playing outdoor games. It was really, really hot!! We had so much fun.

Wee Reads

An extra big thank you to Celina who read to both kindergarten classes all year long. She came twice a week and read to two children at a time. The children and I lover her!!!!

Hooray for a Great Kindergaren Year

I am sad to say that Kindergarten is coming to a close so quickly. Remember to send in all library books. I have sent home notices of overdue books. Please send me an email if you believe you have returned the books that are on the overdue list. Our celebration is on June 22. I have sent a form home where you can indicate how many people will be attending. Our cowboy says have a great weekend!

Edmonton Streetcar

We were so lucky to have the opportunity to go on The Edmonton Streetcar. A big thank you goes out to a very special grandma and grampa that made it happen!!!!! Thank you so much for the great experience and the treats. The children were excited to travel on the streetcar and see all the sights.

Fairy Forest

Today we went to The Wilderness Center. We went to the Fairy forest and built Fairy houses. We went on a scavenger hunt and we looked for lots of bus. We listened for birds and learned about different birds and the sounds they make. We had a great day outside in Nature.

Today we went to the grade one classes in the afternoon. We met the grade one teachers. We did a math activity with smarties. We made a special tile for The Project of Heart. We learned a new math game and we practiced our printing. We had a fund day in Kindergarten.

Today Candy came and taught us about what a Pow Wow is. Ask me what happens at a Pow Wow. We danced to special music and to the beat of a drum. We danced wearing special shawls. We learned about fancy dancing. We made up our own dances and we also did a round dance. In the afternoon we met new friends from the preschool. We were good leaders and played with our new friends. We had a dancing day in Kindergarten!
