Fun Time in the Garden
May 14, 2019

Today we planted in our garden boxes. We planted corn, carrots, marigolds, herbs, squash, spicy peppers, swiss chard and sunflowers. We are excited to watch our garden grow. We worked on our Magic C printing booklet. We are remembering to start our letters at the top. Ask me why C is magic. Mrs. Kitson read us a book titled. The Heart and the Bottle. Ask me about the story. We sang the Hokey Pokey song in music. We played the ukulele with Mrs. D. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

Taking Care of Our World

Today we went on the trails and picked up garbage. We pitched in to clean up our world. We made garden sticks for our garden. We will be planitng our garden box on Tuesday. We told a story using a story mat. Look on Seesaw. We played a fun card game. We are learning to count on. We are taking home a sheet of sight words. Mrs. Kitson read Eric Carle books. We listened to sounds of animals and tried to guess which animal went with each sound. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

Music Time Fun

Today Mrs. Kitson read us the book, The Seed, by Eric Carle. We are reading many of Eric Carls' books. We are learning about how he makes his art. Today we made a collage inspired by Eric Carle. We played lots of literacy games. We sounded out letters and wrote letters and played with a big alphabet mat. We had lots of fun in music learning a new music game. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

Gingy Sent us Special Letters

Today Gingy sent us each a letter. He told us that he took all of his houses to make a Gingerbread Village in the forest. Soon we will go on a nature walk to look for Gingy and his village. We had a special day of shapes. We made a cooperative picture of of 2D shapes. We planned what our picture was going to be of. We tested which 3D shapes rolled,slid or did both. We made a shape monster book. We can read this book with you at home. We made a special card for Mrs. L. It was her day with us. The children thanked he for being a kind and helpful teacher. We had a great day in Kindergarten.

A Special Kindersurprise

Today we watched a video story. It was an Inuit legend called, The Owl and the Raven. Ask me about the story. Mrs.Kitson showed us an owl pellet. Ask me what an owl pellet is. We took the owl pellet apart and looked inside. You can see what we found inside at Student Parent Teacher Interviews. The Gingerbread man sent us an email. He sent us a funny book about a leprechaun and the gingerbread man. It was a good book. We are bringing home our "at" book. We talked about the at family.We worked on our houses and we learned how to draw our portraits. We also painted the window in The Maker Space. Mrs. Kitson talked to us about the artist, Wassily Kandinsky. Ask me about his art. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

Today The Gingerbread Man sent us a book. It was about a leprechaun loose in the school. Ask me about the book. We learned about rainbows and talked about the colours in the rainbow. We practiced reading colour words on our rainbow. We played a rainbow rhyming game. We talked about the at family and coloured our at family book. We can circle the at words at home. We can read our little books with our family. We worked on our houses. We are working with a partner,learning how to listen and cooperate. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

Today Mrs. Kitson read us different versions of Little Red Riding Hood. She read, Super Red Riding Hood, and Ninja Red Riding Hood. We talked about how the stories were the same and how they were different. We are bringing home a book we can read with our family. We played a new card game today. We practiced making three letter words on the ipad. We are learning to listen carefully to the individual sounds in words. In the afternoon we continued to build our houses and play in the castle. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

Today we started to work on our houses. We chose a partner and we talked about how we could put our ideas together. Mrs.Kitson read us the book. If I Build a House. There is a castle in our classroom. We get to dress up like princesses, knights and even dragons. We practiced making patterns today. You can the patterns on Seesaw. We made little books and read the word can. We talked about rhyming words and stretching the sounds in words when we are writing. We practiced making words on the Ipad using the app, Montesorri Crosswords. In gym we ran to letters on the wall that spelled our name. We played with frisbees, raquets, hoola hoops and balls. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

Three Bears Day
March 5, 2019

Today we had a Three Bears Breakfast. We had oatmeal and special toppings. Mrs. Kitson read us the book, Somebody and The Three Bears and The Three Snow Bears. We are learning a Three Bears chant. We made a Three Bears sequence story, and we practiced printing words from The Three Bears story. We played a math game and talked about the letter Q. We went to the gym and played Who Stole the Cookie from the Cookie Jar in Music. We had a great day in Kindergarten.

Fun with Foldable Rulers

Today we played a new game with foldable rulers, and special double dice. There is a small dice inside a big dice. We had to look at the two different dice, see what one was bigger and then count on. We then found the number on our foldable ruler. Mrs Kitson read us a funny book. It was called, A Bad Week for The Three Bears. Ask me about Goldilocks.Mrs. Kitson read us the book, The Mitten. It is a Ukranian folktale. We made our own mitten books. We wrote in our lifebooks and made three letter words on the ipads. We used the letters: s,a,t,p, i and n. We went to the library. We had fun in music class. It was a fun day in Kindergarten.

Goldilocks and The Three Bears

Today Mrs. Kitson read us two different books about Goldilocks and The Three Bears. One was titled, The Three Bears and one was titled Goldilocks. Ask me what was the same and what was different about the books. We worked on a number booklet. We are showing how we can work independently do our best work and stay on task without reminders.We practiced subitizing with dice. We wrote the numbers we saw on the dice. We talked about the letter y. We talked about how y and w are tricky sounds We are going to start a building project. Today we started to work on the design for the inside ot our own special house. We danced and sang and we even went outside for recess. It was a good day in Kindergarten.

Hawaii Day
February 22, 2019

Today it was Hawaii Day in KIndergarten. Mrs. Kitson read the books, The Pig Kuhana, and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. We made our own coconut trees. We made leis and made a beach book. We had a tasting table where we tasted; pineapple, coconut, bananas, mangos, and dragon fruit. Ask me what fruits I liked. Mrs.Kitson brought in real clams and oysters. We learned about the insides of these shellfish. Ask me about a special foot. We played beach games in the gym and we did the limbo. The girls danced for the boys a special Hawaii hula and the boys danced for the girls. The boys dance was really hard but the girls said they could do it too. It was a ALOHA day in KIndergarten.

A Great Game for Visual Discrimination

Today some of us played a new game at Wondertime. It is called, Paul Frank, Boatload of Fun. You have to find a picture of the gameboard. It is really hard, but fun. Mrs. Kitson read us the book, Alphabet on Stage. It is special ABC book. We also listened to the book, Caps for Sale and retold the story on Seesaw. Look for a post on Seesaw coming soon.Ask me about the book. We played a new math game. It was called, Spill the Beans. We were learning about the number 5. We used blocks and a special counting rope to listen to the sounds in three letter words. This is hard. We had fun playing outside. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

Happy Valentines' Day

Today we had a fun lovin day. We sewed hearts, made number heart books, we graphed hearts and played a dice game. We played pie face and played stack the hearts game. We talked about friendship and love. We were so happy to go outside for recess. It was a happy, happy day!.

Today we had indoor recess again. We had fun building with cups and straws. Mrs, Kitson read us the book, Bloom, Ask me about the book. It was about a real person. She also read the book, Perfect Petunias. Ask me about making mistakes. We made patterns with unifix cubes and then painted our patterns. We had to think hard about our pattern because we couldn't always use the same colours. We talked about the letter v and played the game Bump It. It is a subitizing game. Fun in the Snow

Today Mrs. Kitson read us the book, Grumpy Cat. Mrs. Kitson made up a poem with all of grumpy cat's grumpy words. She then made a happy cat poem. They were funny poems. She aslo read us the book, Have you seen my Mother? It was funny. We picked a feeling stone and talked about how we were feeling. We practiced our letter sounds and talked about the letter f. We worked hard on our pattern book. We copied patterns. They were different patterns with A's and B's. I can show you how to make different patterns at home. We played new ABC games. We had fun in music . We really love our new song. I can sing it for you. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

Bird Beaks

Today we talked about bird beaks. Birds have lots of different kinds of beaks. We did an experiment with different tools and kinds of food to see which tool (beak) was the best to pick up different kinds of food. Ask me about the experiment. Ask me what kind of bird I was and what kind of beak I had. We made clay owls with Mrs. D. Mrs, Kitson read us the book, Raven. It was about the sun. We worked in our number book and we talked about the letter B. It was another cold day! We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

Today we practiced making different patterns with 2 attributes. We used different coloured unifix cubes. These are some of the patterns we made; ABBABB, AABBAABB, AAABBBAAABBB. Today we built our own bird houses. We were very good at following directions. We played a tree building game. We had to be careful not to knock our branches off the tree. We played with our new friends in KM at recess. It was a busy fun day!

Today we talked about winter birds in Alberta. We learned new bird names; like redpoll and merlin. We are making our own bird book. We talked about the letter L. We made AB patterns and we talked about patterns. We wrote in our lifebook. We wrote sentences with the word like. We went outside in the forest for a long walk and we played in the trees. We found lots of sticks. Our friend is back from Australia. We looked at lots of picture of koalas. We built a koala house in the woods. We had a fun day in Kindergaren.

First we Grind the Wheat

Today we ground real wheat from a farm. We made bread. We talked about the ingredients. We even put in canola oil.  We made our own buns and butter. Ask me how to make butter. Today we showed the letters and sounds we knew on our seesaw app. We are practicing our letters. Today we made letters with playdough. We made words on the ipad using the app, Magnetic abc. We coloured a little book with our snap word "like" We will be bringing our own little books home to read.with you. We had lots of fun in The Maker Space. We can make cool things out of old hair rollers. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

We have a bird house in our classroom. We will be learning about different birds. Today we started to learn how to weave. We are making our own blankets.. We are always practicing our letters and sounds. We look for letters in the letters the Gingerbread man sends us. We search for letters around the room. We make letters with playdough and write rainbow letters. Today we talked about the letter G. We read our letters on Seesaw. Look for our new post. We are making patterns with different objects. The Christmas Concert is Here

Today we met new friends and practiced for The Christmas Concert! We can hardly wait until tonight. We need to be in our classroom at 6:00 p.m. Our class will put their coats and boots in the Maker Space and then go to The Kindergarten Classroom!

Today we had pancakes at the pancake breakfast. They were yummy! We practiced for our Christmas Concert. We played lots of games and listened to Christmas stories. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

Christmas Concert December 18

The Christmas concert will be held on December 18th. Both Kindergarten classes are coming to school together on this day. There will be a matinee performance at 1:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend. The evening concert begins at 6:30 p.m. All students should be brought to the Kindergarten classroom at 6:00. The Kindergarten students are performing at the beginning of the concert and at the end of the concert. Please pick up your child in The Kindergarten classroom after the performance. The children can dress in their Christmas fancy clothing. The girls will have a costume change. They will be wearing Hawaiian skirts for the second song. They can wear a red, white, or green shirt and tights (black, white red, green) for this number. If you want them to wear a fancy dress for the first number please send a change of clothes.

Remember there is no Kindergarten class on December 19th.

Christmas Party Fun

Today we had our Christmas Party. We made so many different Christmas crafts. We made reindeer, stars, ornaments and a big long Christmas chain. We played games and decorated cookies. We had an awesome day in Kindergarten.

Hanukkah

Today we learned about Hanukkah. We learned that not everyone celebrates the same holidays. We played different dice games. Mrs. Kitson read us the books, There was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Dreidel, and Little Red Ruthie. We made latkes. Ask me what a latke is. We played the dreidel game. The grade 8 class came and read to us. We went to the gym and saw the play, Cinderella BigFoot. It was a fun day in Kindergarten.

Looking Closely at Pinecones

Today we looked closely at pinecones and the needles of spruce trees. We found them on our Forest walk. We drew what we saw. We took our time and put alot of detail. There were lots of different kinds of lines in our drawings. Mrs.Kitson read us the books, Mortimer and 50 Below Zero. They were funny books written by Robert Munsch. We talked about the letter R and we copied christmas words in our lifebook. We played a new game called Super Stretch ABC. Ask me about the game. We had fun singing our Christmas song in music class. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

Rainbow Crow

Today Mrs. K. read us the story, Rainbow Crow. It was about how the crow became to be all black. We learned that the crow does have special shimmering coloured feathers. We drew and coloured our own rainbow crows. We talked about pine cones. We are going to do an experiment with pine cones. We listened to a special song, It was called The Firebird. We played a math game called Bump It. We made a sequence story of The Gingerbread Man story. We can show you our story. Mrs. Kitson read us the books, I am Human and I am Peace. The Whispering Wind
November 23, 2018

Today we went out to the forest. We sat in the outdoor classroom and listened to nature. We heard the wind. Mrs. Kitson told us a story about the whispering wind. We went for a nature walk and found the tree trunk where the whispering wind goes when it is time for a nap. It had a big W on the trunk. We also heard crows. two crows flew towards us. We watched a video on crows. Crows are beautiful birds. The Gingerbread send us an email. He said he has a friend who is a chickadee. He sent us a present. It is a writing box. He also sent us a book to read. It was called, The Gingerbread Man Loose on the Firetruck. We went to music and we are starting to learn our songs for The Christmas Concert. We had fun at Wondertime writing letters to The Gingerbread Man. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

Today we learned a new math game, called Bump It. We practiced looking at numbers of objects without counting. Sometimes we still need to count. Mrs.Kitson read us a funny book. It was called; I want my hat back. Ask me about the rabbit. We also talked about being good to the one we are with. Mrs. Kitson read us the books, The Recess Queen, Martha doesn't say sorry and Do Unto Otters. Ask me about the books. We reviewed the letters sounds: s,a,t,p, i and n. We talked about the letter m. We worked in our lifebooks and told stories about our November break. We played a fun rhyming game with Mrs. D. It was a fun day in Kindergarten.

Remembrance Day

We went to the gym and learned about Remembrance Day. In Kindergarten we practice looking at groups of objects and work on seeing the numbers without counting. We play card games and dice games. Dominoes is also a great game to play to practice subitizing. Mrs. Kitson read us a book about Remembrance Day. She brought in a picture of a soldier. It was a picture of her dad. We talked about being good to the person you are with. We are practicing our letters; s,a,t,p,i and n. We can look for those letters when you are reading us a book. We can also use the letters that Mrs. Kitson sent home to practice our sounds. We can move the letters around to make words if we know our sounds. We had a fund day in Kindergarten.

Sparky Comes for a Visit

Today Sparky came to visit. He talked to us about Fire Safety. Ask me what I should do if I see matches. We talked about a meeting spot. Where should we meet if there is a fire in our house? We talked about what we should do if our clothes catch on fire. Ask me what we should do. Today we talked about sorting animals in different ways. We played a new card game. We practiced our letter sounds, "s,a,t,p,and our new sound "n" We can look for these letters when you read us a book at night. We sang the song, Little Engine Number 9 and played instruments. Mrs. Kitson read us the book, Wonky, Donkey. It is really funny. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

Water Table Fun
November 6, 2018

Today we talked about compound words. We made our own compound words, like: popcorn, wheelchair, and rainbow. We talked about the letter sounds: s,a, t, p and our new sound. "i". We played a new game with dominoes. We are practicing counting pips on the dominos and seeing if we can see the number without counting. We practiced sorting animals. We can play sorting games at home. We can take turns sorting objects and guess what the sorting rule is. We played outside in the snow. It was cold but we had fun. We need to make sure we bring water proof mitts.

Today we learned about an artist named Georgia O'Keeffe. She liked to paint really big flowers. She said she liked to look closely at the flowers before she painted. We looked closely at poppies today. We used special pastels and made beautiful flowers. We are all artists, just like Georgia. She said she knew she would be an artist when she was a little kid just like us. We talked about sorting today. We sorted different animals. We made our own sorting groups. Ask me to sort something at home. We talked about the letter "i" today. We sang songs in music class. I can sing a song for you. We turned the house into a fire station today. We are also having fun writing our friends' names.We had a fun day in Kindergarten

Today we had a Halloween party. We made ghosts, witches and black cats. We laced a pumpkin and made a beaded spider. We played lots of fun games. We played ghost pie face, and Bite the marshmallow. We played ghost bowling and water ghost race. We played lots of other games too. We had mummy hot dogs for lunch. It was a spooky fun day in Kindergarten.

Today Mrs. Kitson read us the book, Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns about Bullies. We talked about how we can help our friends when they are making bad decisions. We talked about being nice to the one you are with. We talked about the letters: s, a, and t. We felt our necks and felt if the letters made our necks vibrate. Mrs. Kitson made up a funny story about the letter T. We can make up our own "T" stories at home. We drew pictures in our nature notebook and talked about what we learned at The Wilderness Center. Today we went to the Wilderness Center. We learned about what we should do if we were Lost in The Woods. We brought back a special bag. Ask me what is in the bag. We made a special S.O.S sign out of sticks. We also listed to a story about a boy named Calvin. Ask me about the story. We went into the woods and pretended to be a nature detective. We learned all about our wild animals. Ask me what animals I learned about. It was a beautiful day at The Wilderness Center.

Observational Drawing

Today we talked about different kinds of drawings. We compared paintings by The Group of Seven and scientific drawings of plants. We talked about how scientists look closely and use all their senses when they are learning about objects. We looked at different natural objects and drew in our nature notebooks. Mrs. Kitson brought brussel sprouts and kale from her garden. We tried sauted kale and brussel sprouts. Most of us thought they were tasty. We went out in the forest and made letters with sticks. Mrs. Kiston read us the book, A Tree Called Steve. It was a beautiful day in the forest.

Little Elk Bus Safety

Today Little Elk came to visit us. We learned about bus safety.We learned about the 4 Safety Rules. Ask me what the 4 rules are. We went out on the bus and practiced getting off the back of the bus. We talked about sorting today. We talked about how we sort our clothes and our toys. We talked about sorting our books in the classroom. We talked about why it is important to sort. Ask me why we think it is a good idea to sort our things. Mrs. Kitson read us the book, The Forever Garden. We talked about gardens and growing our own food. We went to music and sang and danced. Ask me to sing you a song. We had fun at Wondertime. We had a great Kindergarten day!

Today The Gingerbread Man sent us an email. He told us hereally liked the pizza we had on pizza day. We still don’t know where he is. He sent us a book, called The Gingerbread Man, Loose in the School. Wedecided to make Wanted Posters to see if anyone has seen him. Fun in the Forest

Today we went out to the forest. Mrs. Kitson read the book, The Busy Tree. We closed our eyes and she asked us what colour tree trunks were. We opened our eyes and went on a nature walk and looked closely at tree trunks. They are not all brown. They are grey and green with yellow dots. They are black and white and only some have a little brown. We also thought trees were straight, We saw curvy and twisted trees. We came back and drew tree trunks. We taked about the letter A. Lots of kids in our class have an A in their name. We worked in our alphabet books. We had a pizza day and went out for recess with the big kids. It was a fun day in Kindergarten.

Learning about Syllables
October 9, 2018

Today we talked about syllables. We clapped the syllables in our names. We played a game with Mrs. K where we built unifix towers to show the sylabbles in words. We listened to the story. The Ants go Marching and drew in our response journal. We played a math game called Gingerbread Man dice roll. We practiced reading the numbers on a dice and matching them to a numeral. We talked about the letter S. There is only one person in our class that has an S in their name. Mrs. Kitson told us a funny S story. Ask me about it. We can make up our own S story at home. We talked about trees and drew a tree in our nature journal. Mrs. Kitson read us the book, The People of TwelveThousand Winters. Ask me about the book.

Where did the Gingerbread Man Go?

Today Mrs. Kitson read us the story of The Gingerbread Man. We talked about different Gingerbread Man stories. We made Gingerbread Man cookies. When we went to get our Gingerbread Man cookies out of the oven the big Gingerbread Man cookie was gone. We looked all over the school. We went to the shop and saw all the big woodworking machines. We went to the office and even the staffroom where the teachers eat their lunch. We could not find the Gingerbread man anywhere. Where did he go?

Colour in The Forest

Today we went out in the forest and looked for colours. We made a picture out of coloured leaves. Mrs. D made leaf prints with us. We used a real hammer and a leaf and the leaf colour transferred to our picture. It was Orange shirt day at school. We learned about what Orange Shirt Day means. We should always be kind to everyone.

Instruments Galore

Today we had lots of fun in music class. We played all sorts of different instruments. Ask me what some of the names of the instruments are. We made salsa with our tomatoes and peppers from our garden. We even grew our own parsley. We listened to the story, If you give a Moose a Muffin. It was our first pizza day. We were so excited! We had a fun day in kindergarten!

Forest Day

Today we went into the forest. It was sunny and beautiful in the forest. We ran and played with the leaves and sticks. We looked around for a special tree to call our own. We will visit our tree every month when we are at school. We talked about Terry Fox today. He was a real hero. It was a happy but sad story. We want to help Terry fight cancer. We can still bring money to school if we want. We had a fun day at school

Our Tomatoes

Today we took our tomatoes home. I hope you checked my backpack. Many of our tomatoes turned red. We are talking about how we think tomatoes turn red. We are playing rhyming games. We practiced our scissor skills. We are making sure we keep our thumbs up when we cut. We listened to a funny Robert Munsch book about cookies. Ask me about the book. We drew pictures in our lifebook and told Mrs. Kitson our stories. We made our own creations in The Maker Space. In music we went through an obstacle course. Mrs. Grau showed us the clarinet, trumpet and the recorder. We sang lots of songs. We had a fun day in kindergarten.

Today we made muffins. We pulled carrots from our garden and used the zucchini we harvested last week. They were delicious. We talked about our pets or pets we would like to have. We played with in the Maker space and we went to the gym for a freeze dance. We sang songs with Mrs. Grau. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

Today we played in The Maker Space. We painted, played with blocks and made pictures on the light table. Mrs. Kitson read us a funny book. It was called Me First. Ask me about the little piggy. We read lots of song books. We are learning about rhyming. You can play ryhming games with me. We played with sponge balls in the gym. We practiced throwing and catching our own balls. Today we drew ourselves on our LIfebook. Our lifebook is our own journal that we will use all year long to tell stories about ourselves. Mrs. Kitson read us two song books. Old MacDonald and Mary had a Little Lamb. We looked at our tomatoes and looked for changes. Some of our tomatoes are turning red. We talked about what we think made the tomatoes turn red. We went out to the garden and picked all the tomatoes, peppers and zucchini. There were lots of tomatoes. We went to music and sang songs. We had fun in the gym playing, Don't Burst my Bubble and Not in my backyard. Ask me about the games.

Today we greeted half of our new KT Class. We had a busy day. We met new friends and played with new toys. Mrs. Kitson read us the books, Off to Kindergarten and The Kissing Hand. We talked about how we felt coming to kindergarten for the first time. We had many different feelings; nervous, sad, excited,and happy. We went out to the school garden and picked our own tomato. We talked about the different plants and drew them in our nature notebook. We played outside and talked about playing safe on the playground. We went to music and met our music teacher, Mrs. Grau. Goodbye Kindergarten Hello Grade One

Today was our last day of Kindergarten. We celebrated Canada. We ate moose meat and made bannock. The Gingerbread Man sent us books in a big treasure box. In the afternoon we had our own talent show. We sang, danced, drummed and even had a magic show. We had a great last day in Kindergarten!!!!

Elder Wilson comes to Visit
June 14, 2018

Today Elder Wilson came to visit. We went for a walk in the woods and he talked about the medicine the plants give. Plants are gifts and when we take a plant we should give a gift back to the Earth. The Indigenous people always gave a gift of tobacco. We practiced our printing, made an Eric Carle mural, played a fun pattern block game and made a special father's day gift. We had a great day in Kindergarten.

We were so lucky to have the opportunity to go on The Edmonton Streetcar. A big thank you goes out to a very special grandma and grampa that made it happen!!!!! Thank you so much for the great experience and the treats. The children were excited to travel on the streetcar and see all the sights.

A Very Busy Day in KIndergarten

Today Candy came and taught us about what a PowWow is. Ask me to tell you about it. We played drums and rattles and danced. We learned about round dances and pow wow dances. We are sad it is Candy's last day to visit. At lunch time we went and learned some zumba moves in the gym. We had alot of fun dancing. In the afternoon we went to grade one and met our new teachers. We made smartie men and did smartie math. We are very tired! It was a fund day in Kindergarten!

Spring into Nature at The Strathcona Wilderness Center

On Thursday we went to The Strathcona Wilderness Center. We made fairy houses. We learned about the three cares. Ask me what they are. We looked for different colours int he forest and we went on a nature scavenger hunt. We caught bugs but we let them go afte they ran around on a white sheet. We had a hot and fun day!

Talking Sticks

We are bringing our talking sticks home today. We can tell you how we can use our talking stick at home. We had a special drill today. We went into the maker space. In case there is bad weather we have to go into a room that does not have outside windows. We had a fun day in kindergarten playing in the fairy house and making buildings in the maker space.

Planting Peppers

Today we planted peppers in our school garden. We first looked closely at the peppers and drew them in our nature notebook. We will watch them grow. In grade one we will have peepers we hope. We made pictures with tangrams and we played a new math game with a ruler. We had fun in music . We are dancing and singing new songs. Ask me about the songs I have been learning. Today Mrs. Kitson read us the book, The Paper Caper. We listened to the story in the outdoor classroom. We saw lots of wild roses blooming. We saw lots of new plants under our trees. We talked about not wasting paper. We made our own paper. Ask me how we made our own paper. We talked about how Eric Carle makes his special paper. We painted our own special paper that we will be using to make our own pictures. We are going to plant peppers in the school garden on Thursday. We drew pepper plants in our nature notebook. We wonder what they will look like when we are in grade one next year. We worked in our lifebooks, taking our time to stretch out the sounds in the words. In the afternoon the S.O.C. preschool kids came for a visit. We were good friends and helpers. We had a busy, fun filled day in Kindergarten.

Today it was Fairy Land in Kindergarten. Mrs.Kitson read us the book, Hedgie's Surprise by Jan Brett. We talked about little imaginary people. In the story there is a tomten. He is like a gnome or a troll. Ask me about the chicken in the story. We made our talking sticks today. We painted them and put on fur and leather and beads. We practiced cutting out a special paper bear with special paper clothes. We played the card game, sandwich. ask me to teach it to you. We had a fun time playing outside. We should wear sun screen and bring a hat everyday. We had a great day in Kindergarten.

Medieval Feast

Today we had our Medieval Feast. A big thank you to all the parents that sent food and/or volunteered. We made clay dragons, painted water colour castles. We made our own crowns and decorated goblets. We played checkers, cameolt and Tic Tac Toe. We made dragon puppets and painted with egg yolks. We wrote letters with a feather. We ate dragon eggs. We had a delicious feast. It was a fantastic day in Kindergarten!

The Gingerbread Man was Here

Today we had a big surprise. The Gingerbread Man came back. He took all of our houses to make a Gingerbread Man village. He wrote us letters. He was so happy to get so many houses. He said he brought 6 semi trucks to take the houses back to his land. Building the houses was a lot of planning, organizing, co operating, and building. We are glad we made the houses for our friend.

Our Spirit Animal Medalions

Candy taught us about Spirit animals. Today we made Spirit Animal medallions. Ask me why I chose the animal of my medallion. We made patterns with beads and we made a pattern around our medallion. We made our Mother's Day gift. It is in our backpacks. We played with the sounds in words. I can play the Ch icken game with you. We finished our Gingerbread Man houses. They are all so different. I wonder if the Gingerbread Man will come and see them. We wrote our own sentences in our lifebooks. We are getting good at clapping out syllables and sounding out the sounds in words. We had fun playing outside. It is time for sunscreen!

Today it was Star Wars Day at school. Mr. P.C. talked to us about Star Wars. He is an expert! He knows so much about Star Wars. We made our own Star Wars character book. The grade two class came and read to us. They wrote their own planet books. They were awesome. The Elk Island Honour Choir came and they sang songs for us. They were very good! We went outside for gym and played soccer and built an obstacle course. We had a great day in Kindergarten.

Waking up The Trees

On Thursday we went out in the forest and woke up our trees. Candy played the drum while we used rattles to wake up our trees. Candy gave a gift to the trees. We went for a nature walk and looked to see if the forest was waking up. We saw buds and leaves. We saw a frog and a beetle and lots of moths. We looked for the perfect stick to make our own talking stick. We played Indigenous games. We played double ball, stick and pin and The Hunter game. We had a great day outside.

We went to The E.S.O. on Tuesday. We sat in a balcony above the orchestra. We heard all the songs we had studied in school. When we heard the water song we swayed with the music. There was a funny bear on stage. Ask me about the music and the bear.

Signs of Spring Finally

Today we went out in the forest and looked for signs of Spring. We found green leaves on the ground. We saw butterflies and moths and new green moss. Some buds are starting on the bushes. It was a beautiful day in the forest. We are working on our gingerbread houses. We are working together solving problems. We are playing checkers and tic tac toe. We are even playing checkers on the smartboard. We are playing with sounds in words and counting the sounds we hear. We had a sharing circle to talk about playing at recess. We shared how we can play together. We had a fun day in kindergarten.

Today we talked about what we learned about tipis when Candy came to visit. Mrs. Kitson talked to us about the different shapes and designs that are on tipis. Ask me about the different shapes. We made our own tipis. Mrs. Kitson read us the book, Goldilocks. Ask me what was different from other Goldilocks and the Three Bears stories. We played a new dice game called, Shut the box. We had to find different ways to make numbers. We made our own sequence story. We can tell our own special Three Bears story to you. We wrote in our lifebooks. Today we went to The Wilderness Center. We learned about The First Families of Canada. Ask me what I learned. We saw furs and special clothes made of fur and skin. We saw special snow goggles. We played games with sticks and stones. We can make these games at home. We went outside for a nature walk. We saw a small nest and we saw a chickadee go in an out of a hole in a tree. We saw a butterfly and trees chopped down by a beaver. We saw poop. Ask me what kind of poop we saw. We used magnifying glasses to look closely. We found different colours in the woods and played with special Manitoba Maple seeds. We had a great day!

Today we met a saw whet owl named Ricki. We learned about The Great Grey Owl, The Saw Whet owl and The Burrowing Owl. Ask me where the saw whet owl lives. Ricki was full grown. He is the smallest kind of owl. We are working on our Gingerbread Man houses. We are working with our friends to great fantastic houses. We played games and wrote books and letters. We had fun playing outside. We printed letters with curves today. We are practicing our letters sounds. We like reading our little books at home. We like reading to our moms and dads and we like when our moms and dads read to us. We had a hoot in Kindergarten today!

We need our rubber boots.

Today we continued to work on our floor plans for our Gingerbread Man Houses. He is really going to like our houses. He sent us a letter today. He said he was in Ireland with the toads and the leprechaun. We like to read his letters. We read a new little book today. We made stained glass windows. We looked at lots of stained glass windows and talked about all the shapes, colours and patterns we saw. We played a new domino game. We noticed you can make the number eight in different ways. Today we drew floor plans for our houses for The Gingerbread Man. We looked at art by Wassily Kandinsky and Alex Janvier. We noticed that they both used different kinds of lines and shapes and lots of colours. We made our own art. We used different lines, shapes and colours too. We had a special visitor that read a book with Mrs. Kitson. She was from Mexico. She read all the spanish words in the book. She taught us lots of Spanish words. We played a new math game with a friend and practiced our printing. We had a very busy day in Kindergarten..

Today we met a new friend. Her name is Candy. She taught us all about the Metis culture. She talked about different animals. Each animal is a guide. The eagle means love. We were able to look at and feel lots of different things, like a tail from a fox. and a real turtle rattle. We learned the cree words for duck and goose. We played a game where we had to match footprints to different animals. We started the day with a smudge. We used sage. We learned alot today. Candy is going to come back and visit another day. We had a great day in Kindergarten.

Leprechaun Traps

Today Mrs. Kitson read us a book about The Gingerbread Man and the Leprechaun, The Leprechaun was really naughty. He messed up a school. When we came back from Music our Maker Space was all messy. We decided to make traps just like the kids in the book. We made lots of different traps. The Leprechaun wrote us a note. He said he was still really sneaky and he was having fun with the Gingerbread Man. He left us gold coins. We are still going to look for him. We had a mischievous day in Kindergarten.

We talked about our pets today. We can even read to our pets. We are stretching out sounds in words. We are practicing our letter sounds and writing in our lifebooks. We played with balls in the gym today. We watched a video about a raven and an owl. We went out in the woods and used our shovels to build. We had a fun in the sun kind of day!

Today we went into the woods. We went to visit our tree. We are looking for changes. We noticed there was more snow. We went for a silent walk. We listened for birds and heard the trees creaking. We saw moose prints and we think bunny prints. We worked on our structures. Some of us made structures by our trees. We went for a long walk and climbed up a hill. It was even better than recess. In the morning we wrote in our new lifebooks. We are learning to stretch out the sounds in words. We are good artists and story tellers. We are starting our printing books. We danced to the song, Where do you start your letters and ABC Boogie. We worked on pattern block puzzles. Some of the puzzles are hard. We had a cool snowy day in Kindergarten.

Building a Tower

Today we worked in The Maker Space. We drew our own plans. We made towers and houses. We built with blocks and with cardboard and our makedo tools. We had to solve lots of problems. It was hard to make our blocks balance. In the morning we made a bookstore with a coffee shop and we set up a school in our classroom. We also made our own books to sell in the bookstore. We finally got to play outside!!!!!!Yahoo. It was a fun day in Kindergarten.

Today we made special valentine chocolates with rose scented play dough and real cacao beans. We learned how chocolate was made. Mrs. Kitson read us a valentine story about friendship. Ask me about the book. We passed a heart around our circle and gave the person next to us a compliment. We are being good to the one we are with. We played a new math game. We are getting better at recognizing numbers on dice without counting. We made clay owls. We took our time and used different tools to make details on our owls. We had fun outside at recess. We were happy to go outside! We gave out our valentines. We had a fun day in kindergarten.

Today we drew owls. In our nature notebook we drew real life owls. We looked closely at the great horned owl. We noticed that his head is an oval and his body is an oval. We painted colourful owls in The Maker Space. We practiced rhyming, making our own made up rhymes. Rhyming is hard we should practice playing rhyming games at home. We are bringing home a new book to read. We like practicing reading our little books. We listened to nursery rhymes. We are bringing home two nursery rhymes. Can you read them to me. We played on the new snow hill. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

Today we talked about the differences between a hare and a rabbit. Ask me about rabbit babies and hare babies. We looked closely at pictures of hares and drew our own pictures. We played a rhyming game, and we sang Willaby Wallaby Woo. We can sing this song at home and make up our own silly rhymes. We played Spill the beans. We looked at different ways to make the number five. We played metal instruments in music class. We went to the library and we had indoor recess. We had a cozy day in Kindergarten!

Today we went to The Wilderness Center. We learned about snowshoes. We learned there are lots of different snowshoes depending on where you lived. We learned about the snowshoe hare. We played lots of fun games wearing our snowshoes. We went out on the ice and made a maze. We played a camouflage game too. We went for a nature walk. We could jump and run in our snowshoes. We learned about different owls and saw bones and antlers. We had a sunny, snowshoe kind of day in Kindergarten!

We talked about reading our books to our family. Dogs really like a good story. We practiced matching dominos to numerals. We had fun in music and we also went to the library. Today Mrs. Grau taught us a new song. It is called Fungi alafia. It is a song from Nigeria. Ask me to sing it for you. We are practicing listening to sounds in words. We can play penny push together at home. Ask me to tell you the sounds in different words. (pick 2 sound words,phonemes. (tea, t-e) (key, K-e) (pie, p,i) Make sure you say the sound of the letter, not the letter name. We will be bringing home little books. We should practice reading these books everyday. We can read to you at bedtime just before you read us our bedtime story.

Aloha Hawaii

Today it was Hawaii Day in Kindergarten. We dissected a real oyster. We learned about its body parts and how a pearl is made. Mrs. Kitson read us the book, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. We made our own coconut trees. We made a painting with a real fish. Ask me what happened when we were painting the fish. We tasted different tropical fruits, passion fruit, papaya and dragon fruit. We danced the hula. The boys danced a special dance. We had fun Hawaiin centers. Mrs Grau played the ukulele in music. Mrs. D played the ukulele in class for us. At the end of the day we did the limbo. It was a hot and sunny day in Kindergarten!

Our new friend, Spirit Bear is going to spend some time in our Kindergarten class. He is hibernating so we get to cuddle with him and read books.
