Learning about Orange Shirt Day

Today we talked about Orange Shirt Day. We were not at school on Orange shirt day so Mrs. Kitson talked to us about the special day. Mrs. Kitson showed us the book, The Orange Shirt Day Story.. It is a sad story. We talked about how we felt and how we should always be kind to everyone. We drew designs on orange shirts. Our whole school made orange shirts. We played the Power of 10 game and we practiced our cutting skills. We played with balls in the gym. We had fun in the afternoon playing in our haunted house. We had a good day in Kindergarten


A Horse Called Steve

Today we watched a video. It was called, A horse Called Steve. We played a game where we had to buzz in and give an answer to questions about the story. We talked about the new vocabulary words: exceptional, drenched and devastated. Reading storybooks helps to build our vocabulary. We played the brain game. We practiced separating words into syllables. We practiced listening to the beginning and ending sounds in words. We also listened for rhyming words. We played a new game called Power of 10. We learned a new word, subitizing. It means seeing a number of objects without counting. We are using that skill when we are playing the power of 10 game. We made cool things out of wire. We had fun playing in our Haunted House. It was a fun day in Kindergarten.


Playing with Predictions

Today Mrs. Kitson read us the book, Duck on a Bike, by David Shannon. Mrs. Kitson stopped reading the book and asked us what we thought was going to happen next. We learned what the word prediction means. When you read story books at night it is a fun idea to try this. Ask me what my prediction was. We made cool pictures with beautiful stuff. We talked about the letter P. No one has a P in their first names. Two of our friends had P's in their middle name or last name. We are started to learn why our parents picked our names. We played a game with dominoes. We played Chitter Chatter with Mrs. D. We also practiced telling our own stories. In the gym we did an exercise video for kids. We were so tired and thirsty. It was a good workout. We had fun playing at wonder time in the afternoon. It was a fun day in Kindergarten.


Where did The Gingerbread Man Go?

Today Mrs. Kitson read us the story of The Gingerbread Man. We made our own gingerbread dough and cookies. We talked about all of the ingredients. We looked at ginger root and nutmeg. When we went to get the Gingerbread cookies out of the oven the big gingerbread man was gone. We walked all around the school looking for him. We even asked many kids and teachers if they had seen him. We don't know where he went. Our cookies were yummy! It was a sweet day in Kindergarten


The Giving Tree

Today we played The Brain Game. We are practicing listening for beginning and ending sounds. We are also playing with syllables and rhyming words. Today we listened for the letter t and i in our friends' names. We found out that some of our friends have secrets in their names. (ie says e and i sometimes says e also). We played Power of 10 and we cooperated with our friends to build a big floor puzzle. We also drew a cob of corn in our nature journal. It was from our garden. In the afternoon, Mrs. Kitson read us the story, The Giving Tree. We went outside and picked our own special tree. We are going to watch it change through the seasons. It was a fun day in Kindergarten.


Purple Potatoes

Today we cooked the purple potatoes from our garden. We made fried potatoes. We learned how potatoes are planted and how they turn into chips. We talked about Thanksgiving and drew a picture of what we are thankful for. We listened to Raffi's song, Thanks A Lot. We cooperated with our friends and built structures out of cardboard. We played clock dominoes. We had to match the number of pips to a numeral on a clock. Mrs. Kitson read us the book, Me First. Ask me about the sand witch. In music we played the symbols. to the song, The Syncopated Clock by Leroy Anderson.We had a fun day in kindergarten.
