Up Close with a Tree
Today we had a guest teacher. She was really nice. She read us the book, Our Tree named Steve. Ask me about the book. We practiced our letter sounds and looked for the letter M in our names. We listened to see if the m sound was at the beginning, in the middle or at the end of the names. We looked at pictures of trees and we noticed all the lines and colours on the trunks. We drew our trees with Mrs. DeHaan. We played a dice game and practiced looking at the pips and saying what number we see. We played with our Finger Fun bags and our Treasure boxes. Mrs. Kitson read us the book, The Cat in the Hat. We talked about rhyming and we played a rhyming game. We had a fun day in KIndergarten.

Looking Closely
Today we looked closely at plants and items from nature. We drew the items in our nature notebook. We talked about what we noticed. We practiced our letter sounds and talked about the letter I. We played with our finger fun bags. Mrs. Kitson read us the book. What does it Mean to be Kind? In our lifebooks we drew pictures of something we could do to be kind. We played a dice game. We are practicing seeing the pips on the dice and being able to know what number it is without counting. This is called subitizing. We can practice this skill at home when we are playing board games. We brought home a new library book. We need to bring our books back so we can get a new book. We sang, Thumbkin with Mrs Grau. We had a Freeze Dance in gym class. It was so much fun! We had a fun day in KIndergarten!

Finger Time Fun
Today we listened to the song Thanks A Lot, by Raffi. We learned the signs for the song. We talked about what we are thankful for. We looked at our friends' names. We looked for the letter N. We noticed there is a secret in the word, Thank. It is the TH secret. Mrs. Kitson read the book, The Dot. We made our own pictures with 10 dots. We played with our new finger fun bags. We are strengthening our fingers. We retold The Three Bears story. We cut out pictures and put them in the correct sequence. I can retell you the story after you read me a story at night. We had fun in the gym today. Mrs. Kitson read us the book, The Sharing Circle. We had our own sharing circle and talked about what we can do when one of our friends is sad. Mrs. Kitson read us the book, Raven's Feast. Ask me about the book. We practiced our ABC song. We went outside to the forest and went on an alphabet Hunt. We played with our shovels. We had a fun day in Kindergarten.

Orange Shirt Day
Today Mrs. Kitson read us the book, Shi Shi Etko. We went to see The Orange shirt display in The Gathering Space. We learned about how a little girl could not wear her orange shirt. We talked about how we should treat everyone with kindness. We made our own Tshirt for Phyllis We talked about patterns and put patterns on our Tshirt. We brought home a library book today. We had fun in Music class. Ask me to sing you a song. We had a dance party in the gym. We talked about the types of weather and what we should wear in the Fall. We will be outside everyday so we need to dress for the weather.

Where Did The Gingerbread Man Go?
Today Mrs. Kitson read us the story, The Gingerbread Boy, by Paul Galdone. We made Gingerbread Men cookies. We talked about the ingredients in the cookies. We learned where nutmeg, cinnamon and ginger come from. We coloured our own gingerbread man storybook. We played a dice game and we decorated our own gingerbread man. Mrs. Kitson read two other versions of The Gingerbread Man story. We talked about what was the same and what was different between the two books. In the afternoon, Mrs. Kitson baked the cookies. We went to the Foods room to get our cookies and the Three big cookies disappeared. We went for a walk around the school to see if we could find them. When we got back we decorated our cookies. They were yummy! We could not find the Gingerbread Men cookies anywhere. It was a Gingy kind of day

Letters, Letters, Letters
Today we talked about the letters s,a,t,and p. We looked for the letters in our names. We went outside and made the letters with natural materials. We also made our own nature creations on our tree cookies. We are cleaning up the garden. We danced with the corn husks. We used them like ribbons. We talked more about Terry Fox. We did our own Terry Fox run. It was hard. It must have been so hard for Terry. We can donate here! We played and sang Circle Round the Zero in music class. We moved around the gym in many different ways and then played Can you make this number? We practiced our Better Alphabet song. We used our nature detective bags today. We looked for bugs and used our shovels. It was a fun day in kindergarten.
Teacher Note: We will be spending a lot of time outdoors. Please come dressed for the weather. The children stay outside until the bell rings at 8:00 in the morning so it is important they are dressed warmly.
